Nassau Coliseum — Uniondale, NY
TV: MSG+ Radio: 88.7, 103.9 FM
Kevin SchultzTonight at the Coliseum the Islanders will face off against the Sabres, who have been in the NHL’s basement since pretty much the start of the season. Buffalo, as you are probably aware, has had a fire sale all season. They traded away Thomas Vanek for Matt Moulson, got rid of Ryan Miller for Jaroslav Halak and at the deadline they were able to flip Moulson and Halak for more picks and prospects. The one guy they tried unsuccessfully to get rid of was one-time sort of Islander Christian Erhoff, who remains a Sabre.
Tonight is also the night of the infamous protest at the Coliseum that has started and circulated mainly online. I’m not here to tell you to feel one way or the other about it, that’s really up to you. I’m here for the news and hockey opinions, what you choose to do with and about those things is not for me to tell you.
This is an independent blog of the team, so I’m not going to lecture you about supporting the team or whathaveyou and at the same time I have a serious respect for the folks who work at the team and know that they have the fan’s best interests in mind. I think both sides of the coin want the same thing, even thought it has been a long road getting there. I just hope that anything that happens, if anything happens, doesn’t do more harm than good to Islander Country.
As far as the lineup goes, Anders Nilsson will start in net tonight as the Isles are on the second half of a back-to-back. Matt Carkner will also come into the lineup for Matt Donovan.
Scratches: Martinek, Donovan, Boulton IR: Tavares, Grabner
