It took thirteen rounds of the shootout for a victor to emerge from the Islanders / Lightning game tonight. In Round 13, Tampa’s Sami Salo scored to seal the victory for his club. Frans Nielsen, Brock Nelson, Colin McDonald and Casey Cizikas all scored for the Islanders in the extra session.

The first period went goalless but it took only 29 seconds for the Lightning to get on the board after the first intermission. Newly acquired Ryan Callahan deflected in a point shot from defender Radko Gudas to make it 1-0. The Islanders would answer just over a minute later when Ryan Strome scored his fifth of the year at the 1:33 mark from a sharp angle. Matt Donovan would put the Islanders ahead halfway through the period. Nielsen made an excellent feed from behind the net with his back turned to Donovan in the slot, who was able to put it in with a diving effort.

In the third, Callahan notched his second of the game off a rebound of an Eric Brewer shot. The teams would remain deadlocked until things were finally settled in the shootout’s 13th round.

The Islanders had 10 rookies in the lineup for this game: Strome, Nelson, Donovan, Mike Halmo, Anders Lee, John Persson, John Sundstrom, Anders Nilsson, Calvin de Haan and Kevin Czuczman.

Evgeni Nabokov stopped 29 of 31 non-shootout shots. Matt Donovan had a goal and an assist and was +2.

Mackenzie tweeted Wang in serious talks of selling majority ownership of the Islanders. Doesn't say to who.

Josh Bailey has less goals than Matt Martin , CMAC, tied with Lee(13 games) and only 1 more than strome(28).. Bailey has played 68 games getting 2nd line minutes PP and Pk minutes.... I cant imagine that production like that can be found from any other full time 2nd liner....Its one thing not to cut him or send to BP, but a line demotion or sometime in the press box..... HE IS A BUST in NY move on a change will do him and the islanders some good

Maybe Strome should be playing on another line, but lets face it - the other lines aren't extremely talented either.  So what does he do when playing with "scrubs" on the 3rd line?  He works hard, keeps his mouth shut and puts up some points.  Unlike another #5 pick who was "treated unfairly".

@rmreturns  He is a center and he is really slick.  He will fill out but every game in which he improves makes Frans more of a solid trade chip.....Anyway as Strome gets bigger and figures how to get inside he will only get better.

@rmreturns I don't disagree.  My point really was about Strome manning up and playing with whomever they choose and working hard to produce points.  Unlike Nino who whined about it and basically mailed it in.  There will be guys here who will say Nino played with scrubs like Reasoner and Pandolfo and that's why he didn't produce.  I suppose Martin and McDonald must be elevating Stromes game then I guess.
