One word: WHY?   An aging enforcer who rarely plays, what is the point?.   One less roster spot.

I rather have a prospect with some upside be the healthy scratch and be able to take a regular shifts when called upon.   But then again the crack Islander coaching staff considers Boulton a good soldier and a positive presence in the locker room,

anyone that has a problem with this is just looking to complain.  he is not an every day player, he is our heavy weight, just like every team has.  he is making close to the league minimum, and is not taking a spot from any of the young players.

complaining to complain, as usual.

Why not?  You need a heavyweight enforcer incase teams take liberties with JT.

Anyone on this thread who feels they don't need a guy on this team like Boulton doesn't know what they are talking about, who else do they have to protect JT, Strome and some of our other so called skilled players, without a guy like Boulton, other teams 'goons' will take advantage of them and perhaps hurt them, and who else is going to do the heavy stuff? Martin, don't make me laugh.

Signing Eric Boulton is what the Islanders do. You putting up this dumb post when he is 37 makes you more pathetic then Garth Snow, very hard to do, congratulations.

Not a big deal either way, not sure why he had to do it now.

Maybe Snow is on his way out and wanted to do a thank you to an old friend who did his job ok this year.

Hopefully it is the last decision Snow is allowed to make.

he wants to play till he's 50?  really?  i think that'll be hard.  i really don't see the islanders keeping him past 48.

Great news, love Eric Boulton he is a great warrior and a has been around a long time. IF YOU COMPARE THE RATIO OF ICE TIME AND GOALS SCORED HE IS LEADING THE TEAM!!!!

Great signing. Top notch player does his job very well. I would like to see him Play more. He's effective and feel he can put up 10 goals. Why not try him with Johnny once and a while. Heavyweight in the fights as well. I like this.

Boulton has had a very good year. Not every player can be a top line guy. He's a solid 4th line player who doesn't even play every night.

Oh man, had they let him hit the open market things would have gotten ugly! I mean they clearly signed him because the islanders clearly like to roll out a top line and 3 fourth lines

Would rather him on any shift over josh bailey

mind boggling.  I suppose he's a good guy to have around... but why not wait till you know what the team is going to be in the offseason.  Why waste one of the "50" allowable contracts at this point.

Good thing we did it early because there would have been a lot of teams looking to lock him up!

We are saved! We give an extension to someone who got scratched half the season. I'm all excited over here.

No problem with this. Every team needs that extra grit.

@hoser_14  and who is going to take the role that boulton plays? boulton plays his role to a tee.  no reason to hate this trade at all.

@Chris Molloy Why is this post dumb? It's a post about a roster spot on the team, which is an incredibly important and valuable thing when thinking about the future of the franchise. It's like you don't understand anything about hockey... or grammar.

@doc942  Because the Isles will never get to that point to begin with and he is a necessary cog on most teams.  The Isles could always use gritty players especially dealing with teams like the Flyers and Capitals and almost every West Coast team.

It was either him or Moulson ... Lol

@Keane @Chris Molloy Dude, players of Boulton's ilk, can be found in any semi-pro bush league in Canada... It's not that Boulton's type of player is not needed, it's just why sign him now....he can find 10 Boultons in August or July.... Focus is miss-placed and ill-timed...

@gleichzahl @Robert BaskLOL.  Someone earlier in the season was rallying for him to play more with the same stat line.  Guys like Boulton are a necessity and they know their place.  That's why you don't usually hear them complaining about ice time ,and when they are out there they go all out.  They know there isn't any sense in saving it for later.

I have no issue with this signing or the timing.  Not sure why some are complaining about the timing.  Is it a distraction??  LOL

@dkdk  I don't have an issue with it. Every team needs gritty fights for certain games.  This team especially.

@Isles Fanatic @Keane @Chris Molloy  How can the focus be misplaced.  He had the opportunity to sign one of these 10 Boultons so he wouldn't have to waste his time or focus during actual free agency.  Damned if you do by everyone and damned if you don't.

David Schwartz

@dkdk  If he resigns as a backup i'll be very happy.  If anything else then I officially join the I hate every move this team makes club.

Yep David .... And that is why the final quote from Nabby today should have us all quaking in our boots.

@dkdk  I think we are obviously many pieces away from a Stanley Cup but only a top tier goaltender away from being a consistent playoff team.

Nor do I he has a role, I have an issue with the guys hat aren't brought back
