Dreger: Snow Takes Responsibility, Has “Full Confidence” in Capuano

On Insider Trading tonight on TSN, NHL Insider Darren Dreger said that right now the Islanders are “willing to be patient [with Capuano],” that there is “no imminent coach firing and Jack Capuano has the full confidence of his general manager.” He continued to say that GM Garth Snow is taking more of the responsbility for the team’s play as of late.

Dreger also noted that the Islanders need more offensive production (aside from the top line) and are seeking a top-pairing defender in trade.

By far and away the best game any Islander goalie has played all year! Other then the top line which was great again no secondary scoring. Except for MacDonald's PP goal in ST Lou only the top line has scored in the last five games. Hopefully Strome will help remedy the situation. deHaan was their best defensemen last night. Another stupid penalty by Carkner cost them a goal! Both Baily and Grabner are useless! Next callup should be Lee to play with Strome. Snow if he was smart(which he's not) should look to move Grabner. Bailey's contract makes him almost impossible to trade! And once Stait and Viznosky return he should also look to move Amac.

My guess is this is the leaked vote of confidence to get them through the rest of the road trip and then when they get home, they'll make a switch.

I'd like to know where they intend on finding that "top-pairing defender".

And what are we supposed to give up from this great prospect pool of "talent"...

Strome for Ed Jovanovski perhaps?

This is unreal!  The only reason Strome is meeting the team in Phoenix instead of San Jose is because Wang got a better deal on cheapfares.com.  WANG HAS TO GO!

GREAT GAME by Poulin!  I think that was the first time an Islander goal stole a game since we had Osgood.

This is all some bizarre joke perpetuated on Islander fans, right? The last thing this Coach should have is full confidence of anyone. Nothing will change in this circus franchise until Wang sells.

It only took super-human goaltending and a skills competition for us to get a win.

They win. Terrific. Now Cappy gets a contract extension! God help us!

Ha Ha, Islanders extend the sharks losing streak to 4, who da thunk it?

I like the way deHaan is playing.

Anyone else realize that once Carkner got benched the D looked much tighter and no dumb penalties kept us alive down the stretch...

Anyone else think that Thompson behind the bench looks like a pall bearer, or a funeral director?  lol

Ah, a win finally, but Thursday they will probably begin another  losing streak.

5 regulation wins in 32 games.

ultimately snow is to blame ... but capuano is an awful coach and there is no abdicating him from his responsibility as an nhl coach (you know, hold your players accountable and have them prepared to play).

Vanek with a nice garbage goal, ala  Moulson.

Watching this game shows how far we need to go to play with the big boys! Very disappointing! Poulin has been great! Vanek is nothing special and Josh Bailey is not an NHL player right now!Culture needs to change! I would say " rebuild the rebuild" but that would mean something had been built! What a mess!

Bailey, and Grabner have a disease called turnster, every chance they get fails and turnster  shyte

It shows hot stupid Garth Snow is that all I ever hear is we need more offense....as if we can score our way out of this mess. Our forwards are NOT the problem. The problem is we are playing 6 AHL defenseman. They are all useless garbage. When a team can't play defense, the offense cannot be generated. You could add Crosby, Ovechkin and Malkin to this team tomorrow and we would still lose. It's hard to admit but MacDonald, Ness, Carkner, Hamonic, DeHann and Hickey just are not NHL players. Not top 4 def for sure. And add to that mess that we have 2 unproven goalies and its totally unfair to them playing behind these 6 clowns.

The Islander strategy is pathetic no offense and the defensive players act like goalies by flopping around like fish. Hickey is way to small for the NHL. He can't move a peddle and is out of position on every play. Time to bring up Donovan and Mayfield. Carkner, Martinek, and, Hickey time to move on.

Goring just said the Islanders are losing despite playing a 'reasonable game.' Reasonable? Getting outshot 30-11. It's just unreal. Comical.

truth is that Garth can't find anyone  with experience, willing to coach this team for what they pay Cappy!  Forget Lavy! NYPost wrote the other day that he will cost 2 to 3 mil a year. That ain't happening here! It is probably Weight or keep Cappy. Flip a coin!

The Sharks 2nd goal is exactly why the puny clown A-mac needs to go off this team, and his ineptness on the 1st goal also.

This team is doomed. Mr. Rattner please save us

When is this trade going to happen? When they've lost 23 in a row?

Poulin saved the team in the first period. What a display by Poulin!

Wow, the Sharks remind me of the Islanders when we were really the Islanders. We look like an AHL team.

After tonight's game Cappy will say......

"I thought we battled and played well in the 1st period".

They were out shot 18 to 3..

Just for the record...

@TonyM DeHaan really has been a bright spot in a pretty dark time. So many people here were so down on him, honestly it made my expectations next to zero for him, but he's definitely been a pleasant surprise. He's not perfect, but he certainly has more potential than I thought and is much more physical than I was expecting.

@orange2327 At least Grabner gets a shot here and there, Bailey simply doesn't exist, he's a bust

jepliberty

@jpizzy

Now if they can do that for say, 36 of the next 50 they may have a shot, providing the rest of the division continues to play like well, the Isles. lol

@TomDinNJ   Is it me or has calvin deHann looked like the Islanders best defenseman. He's an excellent skater and his passing looks real good too.

Islander joe

Carkner was responsible for both goals. He was in the box for the first and he missed his coverage on the second. I am surprised not to see him in Bridgeport. Not very dependable.

doc942
doc942

Yes. He's the worst. He's the Jon Sim, Andy Hilbert, Jay Pandolfo of the D men.

hockeystat

Grabner unfortunately has to play with Bailey that doesn't help his chances. Bailey likes to skate into the zone and when he gets to the defensive player stops. And stands dahhhh what should do next. How about keep skating to the net thats how you score.

@TomDinNJ AHL is being kind. I was thinking a pond hockey team of over 40-year-olds.

@rjmatty @orange2327 And Baily is signed to a nice hefty contract for the next 3 years making him impossible to move.  Another Snow job.

He has been good so look for him to be sent down to Bridgeport!!!

Mayfield 6 4 Donovan 6 foot can move the puck and someone out from in front of the net. Hickey 5 9 gets bumped of the puck by a chip in the ice.

Does Garth realize hickey qualifies as a rookie. Also they didn't play him in the playoffs because he was over matched. But lets play him over and over against the big boys. Why not give other true drafted Islander rookies a shot for once. Everyone isn't a headcase like Bailey.
