At least Florida won. It seems like Edmonton is doing every thing possible to get the #2 pick.

So glad we beat Muller!! In my opinion, the Islanders downward spiral towards disrespect started when he refused to play for us. Screw him!

Shaky win...but that's O.K., I'll take it!

---Just a thought: Did the Islanders ever see Czurczman play before they signed him??

---I am liking Clutterbuck more and more...

---As I said a million times, Nilson should just stand up straight and spread his arms! Honestly, I don't think I have ever seen a goalie this big and this bad!......Really need to make a splash in the offseason, Anderson or Hiller? Both want to be the #1, and both on the same team!

courtesy of capgeek:  these are the goalie UFA's this summer.  number 1 priority, if not by free agency then via trade!

Montoya has been a bargain for Winnipeg.  why did we let him go and pay and extra $2.6M for Gabby!

I had no problem with the niño trade. And I loved niño but he wasn't going to play here so why keep him got a modern day version and a larger mike peca. Now peca that was a hockey player # 27

dimaio34
dimaio34

Gotta hand it to the boys. 6-5 since Johnny went down. And now a Hirt okposo. So pretty impressed. Had the Minnesota game other than that pretty competitive. Really need to figure out the goalie issue. Still feel Poulin can play. I think they are bringing Nabby back next year. Gotta love Colin and Matty tonight. Awesome efforts. Just grinding it out. Loved niño but I'll take Clutterbuck any day. A true team guy plays hard true grit. Sort of remindes me of peca

Can we bank the 2 points for next November?

jpizzy

To their credit, they haven't packed it in since JT's injury. Now just get us a goalie...and a coach while you're at it...and if it's not too much trouble an experienced and successful GM.

since72

Hey, they shut them down in the 3rd so that's improvement.  Gotta stop giving up a goal after scoring one.  Nilsson continues with that poor save percentage and goals against.  Not their best performance but at least they got a regulation win on the road against a team that they have struggled against.

butch was praising strome, but i saw him also make a few bad plays like passing the puck across his own blue line etc.  it's true he makes nice set ups from behind the goal, he'd done it before and he did it tonight, but i don't see anything like the complete game yet.

@erika   Anderson would absolutely solidify the goalie situation for the islanders.

@dimaio34  Clutterbuck is a modern day Peca? Dude what are you guys smoking up there in Calgary?

CaptainT
CaptainT

@dimaio34 i actually started believing that clutter is better than nino. he knows his role and is supremely effective. nino's development got killed by pandolpho and reasoner and it doesnt look like hell ever be the 30 goal scorer we thought he could be

Vicp73
Vicp73

@rmreturns  Hey, if watching defensive zone breakdowns, blown coverage and pathetic goal tending is fun, your going to get your fill in the next 4 to 5 years with this team

gleichzahl

@jpizzy  6-0 at home is pretty close to packing it in.  and they're playing some teams that are in the pack-it-in phase themselves at this point, like tonight.

although i thought clb was dead too but now i'm hearing toronto might be doing another patented fade...

@since72  somebody please tell nilsson you can't play goalie on your knees.

@CaptainT @dimaio34    Captain i said about 2 months ago that Clutterbuck was an all around better player then Nino and people jumped all over me. He kills penalties, scores some goals including short handed goals and hits like a sledgehammer.

nyicdneh
nyicdneh

@CaptainT @dimaio34 everyone needs to ask the simple question: in a tight playoff game holding a narrow lead at the end of the game, who would you rather have on the ice: Nino or Cal?  hands down Cal.  Cal's numbers have improved dramatically since the Olympics given the number of injuries the Isles have had he's been given the opportunity to be more involved in offensive situations.  had the isles been a playoff team as we all expected them to be, the trade for Cal was in the best interest of the isles for playoff success.  I agree, Nino will never hit 30 goals.

dimaio34
dimaio34

Hey when we got cal. It was in preparation for the playoffs. Just think of what he would have been like in the Pittsburgh series. He probably would have killed Neal. And orpik would not have made it to game 6

jpizzy
jpizzy

@CaptainT @dimaio34 Nino never should've been picked fifth overall. Snow fell in love with his size and a lot of teams do that. I just don't see any great skill level with him. He'll score 20-25 but that may be his ceiling.

jpizzy
jpizzy

@gleichzahl @jpizzy  They're 6-5-1 since JT's injury. I didn't think they would win two games after he got hurt. They got crushed 6-0 but won their next two.

dkdk
dkdk

Yes it isn't wangs fault no one else is the visionary he is!

dkdk
dkdk

Snow signed choochman so he must be good right? Lol

dkdk
dkdk

I watched a couple of the Olympics games and niño played in every role. Up a goal, down a goal, pp, etc. he was their best player by far.

Maybe instead of killing niño people should kill wang for keeping a kid who clearly wasn't ready on the big time but he LOVED paying 900k and being awarded a 3.3 cap hit. Another example of how cap floor circumvention is prevelant here. But by all means let the Corsi crew continue to shower wang and his pet with praise for constant bottom 5 finishes. But I forgot again, the fans negative comments cause those finishes and wang not spending money ... Lol.

@mrcisback @dkdk  Let's take an NHL GM poll and see who they'd rather have, I guarantee 29 other GM's will take Nino. Only 21 years old with a big upside. Cal is and will always be a 3rd line player. I like Cal, don't get me wrong but i can't stand all the hating on Nino. He did the right thing to demand a trade out of this mess

mrcisback
mrcisback

@dkdk   Actually Nino had 2 goals and 5 points in 64 games with the Islanders before he demanded a trade. Now we all know Nino wasn't used properly with the Islanders but the fact is the numbers don't lie.

mrcisback
mrcisback

@dkdk   Theres a lot of 5th overall picks who are busts. When your trying to trade a player who had 1 or 2 goals in his NHL career over 50 games and demands a trade then your lucky to get any thing all for him.

dkdk
dkdk

To me it isn't even who is the better all around player it is what each player is. Cal is a very effective 3rd line grinder. You don't use 5th overall picks on grinders.

dimaio34
dimaio34

Agree with you fully. Niño will never have the playoff make up that's needed. When he was in Portland I watched the whl final when they played and the longer it went the more niño tailed off

@dimaio34  I'm sure James Neal and Brooks Orpick wouldn't be able to sleep the night before the game right?

@dimaio34

Just one to curb your misplaced enthusiasm regarding CCs fighting prowess, he is not a good fighter, and loses many of his fights, albeit he is a good checker, and Penalty Killer, that I agree with.

@Vicp73 @rmreturns  not even remotely the same player.

i do like what clutterbuck brings to the team though.  hes a good complimentary player and throws his body around well, but he doesnt deserve this sort of praise.

Vicp73
Vicp73

@rmreturns  Thanks tips, my point is this fan base likes to exaggerate a little. Go down the thread and you'll see Clutterbuck comparisons to Mike Peca, which is absolutely absurd

@CaptainT @Vicp73 @John Richards  of course it'd help if his teammates didn't leave him locked up alone with an opponent when one of them could go in and finish the defensive play.  but yeah, he got a little bit exposed, which isn't surprising.
