GAME DAY (P3): The First Game in Brooklyn

New Jersey Devils at New York Islanders, 7:00pm ET
Barclays Center — Brooklyn, NY

TV: Isles’ website — Radio: WRHU, 88.7FM

After a lockout killed the first attempt at playing an exhibition game in Brooklyn last fall, it’s finally time to see what the Barclays Center can do when it comes to hockey games. We’ve had the surprise move announcement, endlessly debated the horseshoe setup and had a field trip to the new digs. Now we’ll get to see it in action.

The Islanders head to Brooklyn for their third pre-season game of the year and second against the Devils, after a 5-3 win and fight fest in New Jersey on Thursday night. It’s pretty much an NHL lineup on the ice tonight featuring John Tavares, Matt Moulson, et al, as the team looks to put their best foot forward in the new digs and please the 10,000+ that are expected to show up. But also keep in mind that the Isles have a game in Nashville tomorrow, so if a certain player or prospect is missing, it’s likely because they’re on a flight to Music City.

Moulson – Tavares – Bouchard
Bailey – Nielsen – Okposo
Martin – Cizikas – MacDonald
Boulton – Sundstrom – Johnson

Strait – Hamonic
Donovan – MacDonald
Reinhart – Visnovsky

Nabokov
Milner

In net, Evgeni Nabokov and Corey Schneider are both expected to play the whole game for their respective teams.

If you’re heading to the game, there are some LIRR travel tips here. But take it from someone who does this stuff every day; expect to transfer at Jamaica for the train to Brooklyn and make sure to leave early. The last thing you would want is a delayed train making you miss half the game. For those unable to make it to the Barclays, you can check out the Isles official website for a stream of the game and follow Christian Arnold on twitter for updates from Brooklyn.
