Garth Snow Talks Goalie Scenarios, Jerseys and Prospects

Kevin Schultz

Earlier tonight, Islanders GM Garth Snow addressed the Islanders Booster Club and took a lot of questions from them regarding the team and personnel decisions. Joe, who goes by Knight_of_Cups_ on twitter, and Jesse, who runs Isles Nation, were there and both did a great job tweeting and writing about the most important points of the night.

Via Jesse’s writeup, Snow seemed to be weighing his options in net saying: “We have a couple of avenues we could go. We could bring Nabby back, for a year, buy some time for Poulin and Nilsson. We could go outside the organization. We’ll know within the next three weeks which direction we’re looking to go.”

In other goalie news he called Elliotte Friedman’s report on Rick DiPietro “totally untrue.” Kevin Poulin would have to pass waivers to head back to Bridgeport, if he does not make the team out of training camp. Tim Thomas also won’t be part of the team after he becomes a free agent on July 5th.

As far as the jerseys and color scheme news, Snow wouldn’t comment much but said there would “probably” be a new third jersey when they get to Brooklyn. The team is also looking at a jersey similarly styled to their current unis for the outdoor game.

A few other important points:

  • The new captain has not been decided yet.
  • Snow seemed high on Matt Donovan and his ability to step onto the team next year. He thought Donovan and Brock Nelson had the best chance to make the team out of the current prospect pool. Ryan Strome was mentioned as likely to start the season in Bridgeport.
  • Negotiations with Josh Bailey and Travis Hamonic are ongoing. Both are RFAs this summer.
