Ho Sang will be the steal of '14

Josh Ho-Sang is PISSED at Hockey Canada. I love that kind of fire in a player!

Love these podcasts (thanks Brian Compton)!  It's also nice that they add some sanity to all the noise that can sometimes come through on this blog, which I too have been guilty of contributing to.

My biggest takeaway from the podcast was that the Islanders' depth is very strong, and the starting roster has all the pieces to make the playoffs.

Can't wait till October!

I was just in Brandon. And there is pulock posters everywhere. Guys a freak of nature

Reinhart is going to be a beast in this league. We just stay healthy. And this team is going to do some damage this year

Bertuzzi jokinen chara berard mcabe loungo Connelly dumont just think what arbour could have done with this group. There would have been another 4 cups on the island. And just think what Torrey would have surrounded them with. Would have been a scary. Very scary team!!!!! One can still imagine right????

Nice get fellas.. Slow news week, great idea with the interviews...

Off topic- nice post at LHH on how the surplus at forward, means the chance to not start forwards with bad numbers from last season. Numbers mean math is involved in the post, so let the hate begin...

@Jason Zimmermann  "What's my goal? Ho-Sang said, repeating the question. "It's to be better than everyone else there. I want to be better than John Tavares, I know he's an unbelievable player and I want to push myself against those guys because that's how you get there. If I'm going head to head and pushing toes with Johnny T, chances are pretty good that I'd make the team."

i absolutely love that attitude.  hes more confident to me than arrogant.  hes also constantly overlooked when talking about the elite players of his age group so his attitude at times is understandable.  to not even be invited to summer camp has to be disappointing to him because he knows he belongs on the ice with those kids.

really hope this kid pans out - his style of play is very exciting

@dimaio34 In addition to this group would have been a couple of other draft picks.  Was it the Gaborik and Heatly draft when Miburried traded Luongo?

@Jason Zimmermann- He stated "likely", so quit bitching..

.Perhaps we can get Sparkey on the recent ice spill overhead popularity.

@slapshot18_rs @Jason Zimmermann I have to agree slapshot. Every time this kid touches the puck exciting things happen! I don't mind his arrogance or confidence, as long as it translates on the ice. I hope he is not another Kabanov. Hopefully he gets a little bigger and stronger and we can finally watch some very exciting Islander games...can't wait!

@doc942 KO(2206) has played 390 games for the Isles, a former first rd pick.

Next former first rd pick to play 400 games for the Isles_ scott Lachance( 1991)

Before that, LaFontaine and Flatley..

Lotsa bad first rd picks after 1983, and the good ones weren't kept around..

Yup and he took DP. With thecpick

@erika think this kid was extremely under valued - just by comparison, he was 14 points shy of mcdavid in the ohl this year (a generational talent, granted 1 year younger), only 9 points behind dal colle, had 11 pts more than bo horvat who was drafted #9 overall last year, and nick ritchie who went 10 overall, lead the spitfires in goals, assists, & pts.  hes obviously got elite scoring talent.  but agree, he'll need to bulk up a bit to be a force in the nhl

@rmbbanned @doc942 Yeah, and one of the good ones was one of the first signs of how this team was coming undone; trading Darius for Bryan Smolinski (aka "Smoke" because he was known to disappear) was infuriating!

I would say the picks just didn't get it done in the pros. I watched most if those picks tag played in the western league. And I know why the isles picked them. They were beasts and rough and tough guys that could either score a lot or shut you down. And beat the tar out of you.

@dimaio34 yeesh... just awful.  Milburried set the franchise back 20 years.

Trading Kaspar was infuriating for me at the time. Complete package of all the " intangibles " you could want in an NHL player. He got the best player on the other team off their game every night. I thought the Franchise had something in him and the big Russian Malakov..

I still think Ricky had the goods. But injuries took the best if him

dimaio34

Yup that guy killed this franchise. Absolutely a buffoon. We are still hurting from it. And to add to the bad trades. He passes on parise!!!!!!!!! Ugh

@rmbbanned Yup, me too. Except Malakhov had me fooled for a year and a half.

Kasparaitis was a player this team needed.

@dimaio34 DP had the heart and puck skills, but he was never a great goalie. In his 3rd year he was decent...but never great.Sorry his body failed him though....

Kaspar is the type of player every team needs, every night. Sound defensively in his own zone, while driving the other team insane every shift. There is a brilliance in that type of play..
