Isles to Travel Second Fewest Miles in the NHL This Year

The 82-game NHL schedule is a long, grueling grind but for the Islanders it won’t be as bad as the schedules of most of their counterparts (if we can truly call traveling 30,000 miles in 7 months “not that bad” is another story).

SB Nation’s Dirk Hoag has complied travel numbers for the entire NHL based on the schedule that was released yesterday and the Islanders will travel the second-fewest amount of miles in the entire NHL (29,933). The Rangers rank first, barely, traveling about 100 miles less than the Islanders. The San Jose Sharks clock in with the most miles to travel with 57,612.

Also of note in Hoag’s analysis is that the Islanders will play back-to-back games 18 times this season. That is tied with Chicago for the third most back-to-backs in the league. New Jersey has the most, 22, and three teams only have 10.
