Isles sticking with Evgeni Nabokov in goal

Even though Evgeni Nabokov has a 4.55 goals-against average and a save percentage of only .846 in the playoffs, the New York Islanders will be sticking with him in goal.

Evgeni Nabokov“We don’t want to get in a shootout, but with the way the games are going, every game is a challenge,” Islanders coach Jack Capuano said, according to NHL.com. “It’s a test. Games might be like that. But I have total confidence in Nabokov that he can do the job for us.”

Nabokov stopped 27 of 31 shots, posting an .871 save percentage in Game 4, as the Islanders picked him up with their offense, netting six goals against the Penguins. In the third period of Game 4, Nabakov stopped 11 of 12 shots, helping the Isles tie up the series.

“If you look at the goals, they score good goals, they score off their sticks, off their feet,” Nabokov said. “I think the biggest thing is, move on to the next shot.”

“We make mistakes, but the passion, the desire, the heart … I try to not be as emotional as the guys and I try to stay composed and be ready for whatever comes my way,” Nabokov said.
