Lubomir Visnovsky Cleared for Contact

This morning the Islanders skated at the Coliseum and multiple reports say that defender Lubomir Visnovsky has been skating with the team and is not wearing a non-contact jersey. This implies that Visnovsky has been cleared for contact and could be close to returning to game action. The defender has been out since October 19th with a concussion.

Evgeni Nabokov also practice with the team this morning. Nabokov has been out since getting injured on January 6 against Dallas.

Trade AMac, get something better Back!

Seriously, he is overrated and has no place on this team going forward.  He's not really a defensive D-man nor much better at the offensive side of the game.  He is simply over all avg.  And most outside the org. think higher of him?  Yes trade him, please.

Personally I can't stand the lack of physicality from him.  He always shies away from contact.  Sure he takes a lot of pucks to the body but he will NEVER knock anyone off their game.

Awesome ! lubos quarterback skills and vet presence on the ice with youngsters dehaan and donovan is sorely needed .. please if we stick with nabby and get no goalie help, can he not be played 5~6 games in a row , play poulin, save nabbys health for hopefully warmer wheathrr hockey crunchtime games

Good news. But if Snow does not want him to play in the Olympics at the "advice of the doctors"

I am not sure what it means. If anything, it will help him to get into "game shape". If the doctors are worried, why clear him for contact? The Olympics games are not as physical as the NHL, this is not to say it's figure skating, but if he is up to it let's find out during the games and not during the final stretch of the season.

Hopefully, he can resume his career without any further health complications or issues. This is a positive thing. It certainly shouldn't hurt their cause.

That's great, what about Hamonic?  I would imagine Vis gets paired with Strait, and DeHaan with Hickey, and MacDonald with Donovan?

Great news! What do the D pairings look like when he comes back for good? Martinek would sit I imagine.

@microcosmo

Having Nabby and Vis will certainly help this young team.  Vet leadership and guidance is a very big factor with this young team.

@shlo i think from the islanders perspective they would rather not risk it at all.  They know he is their best defensemen and could have a very positive impact when he returns. They dont want to risk a player like that playing in games that they see as meaningless (even though visnovsky and all the players see it differently) so fresh off a concussion.  He could just as easily skate on his own and get the conditioning he needs in a more controlled environment. Their is still plenty of hitting in the olympics (but yes it will be a lot less then usual on the olympic size rink).

I personally wouldnt mind him going and getting  back in shape in some elite game action that doesnt actually count, but if he got injured in sochi it'd be a disaster for the isles.  Better off trying to hold him back IMO

I think when Viz comes back ther Isles are going to out Hamonic on the IR.

I think Viz goes back with Hickey and the other pairs stay the same. If and when Hamonic comes back then some decisions need to be made. I think they will keep Amac in case Hamonic is out to long and trade his rights during the offseason like they did with Streit. If they deal Amac now they need someone who can come in and play now on D.

@bubbamac19 Hickey was visnovsky's pairing last year and before he went down this year as im sure you already knew but i can see that changing. Visnovsky was a great player to help hickey along and he has turned into a very solid bottom pair defensemen at least (of course hes a top 4 on the isles right now). id put Donovan with Visnovsky and see if he has the same effect on him.

de Haan - Hickey

Visnovsky - Donovan

MacDonald - Strait

?

Its nice having a decent stay at home defenseman like strait on the ice with macdonald as well

When hamonic comes back id say trade Amac right then ( hes crazy if he thinks hes get $5 mil/year) but really itd be a better bet to send donovan back down (hed be the most likely candidate to sit and it seems silly to waste his development by scratching him every night). Itd be silly to trade away defensive depth after all the issues they have had if they are still in it at the break. Macdonald still should and prob will likely be traded if the offers make sense no matter where the isles are in the standings though

@neeza06 I have no problems with being cautious .

. We need him healthy, every ex hockey player/ current commentator always says "there is no substitution to actual game". He needs to get his stamina , timing and who knows what else back. It cannot be done under controlled environment. Only actual games. He will not be effective in the first few games. There will be turnovers, inability to catch speedy forwards etc. We can't afford that either.

He is less likely to get hurt during the Olympics than in the lion den known as hockey game.

For what it is worth, I posted my opinion more than once that the Olympics meant to be for AMATEUR athletes. I don't think that NHL, KHL etc should take part in it.  They have World Championships for that.

@nics21 Depends where we are in the standings at the deadline.  If the playoffs are a long shot, then you would want to move Amac to get the best return.  I'm thinking a low 2nd rounder is possible.

bubbamac19
bubbamac19

@neeza06 I agree on trading Amac; I think he, Donovan, hickey, ness, Viz all have the same skill set and basic size. What do you think they could get for AMac at the deadline?

@shlo @neeza06 Agreed on the NHL / KHL taking part in the Olympics.  Too disruptive to the season.  Too much risk of injury to players who are supposed to be playing exclusively for the teams who pay them.  There was some talk about this being the last olympics for NHL players.

@bubbamac19 A low cost minuting eating D who is the NHL shot block leader - he could net a #1

Considering the rumored price for moulsen right now is a first a second and a prospect I don't think a first rounder depending on the team is huge reach. Prob should get at least a second or a forward prospect. I don't love Amac but I think he has a ton of value being a bottom pair defenseman on a good team who needs depth. We shall see I guess
