The Islanders and defenseman Mark Streit are possibly discussing a new contract, according to Katie Strang of ESPN New York.
“Everyone knows I like it here,” Streit said, according to Strang. “For me what’s important is where I live, the environment I’m in, the people I work with — that’s important to me. The time I’ve spent here, it’s just flown by”
Strang does mention that Streit is a possibly option to be dealt in the next few weeks before the trading deadline and it will likely depend on how the Islanders playoff situation plays out between now and then.
Streit, 35, signed a $20.5 million, five-year-deal in ’08.
