Arthur Staple of Newsday notes that the Islanders have re-signed goalie Evgeni Nabokov to a one-year deal worth $3.25 million.
Nabokov had a record of 23-11-7 last season with a save percentage of .910 and a GAA of 2.50. He had three shutouts.
In the playoffs, Nabokov was 2-4 with a GAA of 4.44 and a save percentage of .842.
Staple notes that the Islanders were interested in Ray Emery, before he chose to return to Philadelphia, and the organization feels that Nabokov was the best short-term option available.
In a chat at ESPN.com, Katie Strang wrote “Not sure if there was much else out there for Garth Snow to improve his situation between the pipes. Believe Nabokov genuinely wanted to remain on Long Island, too.”
