According to Chris Johnston, Darren Dreger and Elliotte Friedman, at the NHL competition committee meeting in Toronto:
- the use of visors will be grandfathered into the NHL starting next season.
- the league will also try hybrid icing in the pre-season next year and then discuss whether to move forward with it.
- Four minute penalties for high sticking are now subject to video review.
- Shallower nets will be used to allow for more space behind the net.
The Board of Governors will need to approve all of these changes.
Mathieu Schneider of the NHLPA said that a majority of players supported the notion of grandfathering in the use of visors.
Dreger says that players who have played 26 games or more in the NHL will not have to wear a visor under the new plan.
