NHL Shop’s Tavares Jerseys Missing Key Ingredient

Kevin Schultz

As part of the Stadium Series Game between the Islanders and Rangers next Wednesday at Yankee Stadium, the Islanders will be wearing a special blue jersey to commemorate the event.

The limited edition jersey has been a success, as demand for it has caused NHL.com to sell out and many of the jerseys can be seen (and purchased) around the Coliseum concourse.

tavaresjerseyHowever, we’ve heard from a number of fans who weren’t satisfied with their purchase from the NHL’s online store, shop.nhl.com. According to those we spoke to as well as posters at Hockey’s Future, the John Tavares jerseys sold through the website have not shipped with the captain’s ‘C’, which Tavares was given during the off-season, despite the website showing the contrary (right).

An NHL source tells Point Blank that the issue is being looked into and it’s a mistake if customers received the jersey without the ‘C’. Fans with the incorrect jersey should contact NHL Shop and ask for the ‘C’ to be added.

The source continued to say that the jerseys were designed late and went into production late, causing things like the ‘C’ and Stadium Series logo to be missing for many of the retailers. To compound that, customers weren’t notified of the missing jersey elements. A dropped ball, or puck if you will, for all involved.

Purchasers of the jersey at the Coliseum have gotten the ‘C’ with their jerseys as well as a special Stadium Series patch, the latter of which appears to be either a special incentive for buying the jersey through the team or the team making things right.

I had this exact issue happen to me.  I decided against asking for a new one and just took the credit.  I will wait until March when they offer other players like KO instead of just only having a JT jersey(shows again how disrespected we are that only one player stadium series jersey has been created)

I do know that the Tavares jerseys came from the NHL and were iron on numbers, but all of the other players got done at Stitches in Queens (they do the islanders letters).  The C was stitched on, so it was added by them.  My Neilsen jersey has all stitched on numbers and letters.  I heard this from the guys taking the jersey orders at the Coliseum.

Can the team store change the "A" on my Tavares jersey to a "C"?

Typical...just typical...This team never has anything go easy or right.

when you check out NHL store now - the jerseys are missing the laces on the front too.

Also NHL.com sells it for $179.99, and the Team Store sells it for $240.00... Major difference, a lot of people will be pissed off if the NHL doesn't do the right thing... I know I was part of the whole situation... Received one jersey, both missing "C", and both missing "Stadium" logo... Called, complained... They said they know, they'll send me a corrected one... Received the supposed corrected one... still missing the "C" and "Stadium" logo. But on a good note... Tavares jersey has been seemingly the most sold NHL Stadium Jersey on NHL.com

this is why i don't like to buy sight unseen.

@Rich Hesse - You can call and ask them... But they refused to put a "C" on my Stadium Jersey that I already had. They were concerned on the quality of the Jersey, and saying it might burn it. (Uh, I purchased it from Shop.NHL.com 2 days before I went there to ask)  So I would call the team store and ask... Especially if you purchased the Jersey from them...

@jmont They are actually showing the YOUTH Jerseys for those images. All YOUTH Jerseys always have laces missing, but shop.nhl.com is all messed up. Wrong images all over the place. You can look at the Jersey Tag on the front of the "Adult" one, and it says "L/XL" which is a YOUTH SIZE. I have called and complained many times, they have no explanation for anything. One rep I spoke to... Didn't know Tavares was the Captain of the team, tried to tell me... No the Captain of the Islanders is Toews. I'm like ok, really?
