I have to give Czuczman a lot of credit. At least the guy wanted to come here especially with about a dozen other teams interested in him.

A woman who is a huge Leaf's fan walks into a tattoo parlor in downtown Toronto and asks, "Do you do custom work?"

"Why of course!" was the reply.
"Good. I'd like a portrait of Wendel Clark on the inside of my right thigh, and a portrait of Darryl Sittler  on the inside of my left thigh."
"No problem," says the artist. "Strip from the waist down and get up on the table."
After hours of hard work, the artist finishes. The woman sits up and examines the tattoos.
"That doesn't look like them!" she complains loudly.
"Oh yes it does," the artist says indignantly, "and I can prove it." With that, he runs out of the shop and grabs the first man off the street he can find.
"Well, what do you think?" the woman asks, spreading her legs. "Do you know who these men are?"
The guy studies the tattoos for a couple of minutes and says. "I'm not sure who the guys on either wing are, but the fellow playing center is definitely Lanny MacDonald!"

Omg James Dolan is a complete idiot.. He is barely making sense in the Phil Jackson press conference..

But, at least he speaks and tries to better his teams..

what about moulson goes to play with his brother-in-law, like they were saying on the islander broadcast the other night?

The more things change,,, the more things stay the same around here...  For the past three seasons this team has had 2/3 of a top line, with the GM searching to plug in a steady right wing.  So what did he do this year???  He found that right wing right inside his roster and immediately proceed to ship out the left wing that had produced three straight 30 goal seasons before the lock out shortened last year.  Now Snow has to find a left wing for next year on that top line spot.  Perhaps he has that guy in Anders Lee.  He's an RFA and due for a big raise but certainly not the $6 million per that Newsday claims Moulson was asking for prior to getting sent to Buffalo.  And if Snow fails to bring in a big offensive talent for that spot, that leaves Neilsen, Strome, Nelson, Grabner, Clutterbuck and the much despised Bailey to fill the next three lines.  Let the screaming begin...

@mrcisback What other teams offered him a spot on the NHL roster a week after signing his contract? Remember when everyone wanted Matt Gilroy, how did that work out?

@ejej Rumor has it there is a paid shill on this site that has a tattoo of Charles Wang on his inner left thigh and a tattoo of Garth snow on his inner right thigh...but then again a lot like the Vanek debacle I wouldn't listen to rumors

@REDSpointofview Other than Heatley, as it was suggested couple of days ago here, who is available? Lee is a definite possibility, I like him a lot. What are you willing to give in a trade for a first line LW?

I am worried about a goalie, like most people here, it is our first priority. We need a goalie that can give us at least .920 save pct to be a wild card team to begin with.

DeHaan & Donovan will be more experienced, there has to be an improvement there.

So yes I can hear the screams.

@tag1 @mrcisback  it was reported that 16 teams were interested in him.

i don't read too far into that though...he has personal relationships with players on the islanders, they're all roughly his age, etc. thats why he wanted to come here...on top of the ability to step in and play

however, i have yet to read a bad thing about this kid.  hopefully he is able to turn into a solid nhl defender. we can only hope anyway.

@shlo @REDSpointofview What free agent goalie is coming here?  I would suspect that we can only attract a back up who wants to be a number 1.  I think Hiller will be re signed by the Ducks and Miller by the Blues.  Halak will want to play for a better team and will probably get that chance.  I'm thinking either Elliot or Gustavsson could be possible as they are currently in back up rolls and unlikely to be given the chance to be number 1 on their current teams.

REDSpointofview

@shlo @REDSpointofview

I just posted below what I believe could be a viable alternative,,, offer Moulson $5 million per and see if he bites on coming back.  Lee could then play with Strome and Nelson, last years top line in Bridgeport, as the #2 line here, and that lets Neilsen, Grabner and Bailey or Clutterbuck play a more natural checking line role.

But,,, that still doesn't address the greatest deficiency hereabouts,,, goaltending.  A perusal of pending UFA goalies leaves one scratching his head about what Snow can do...  Halak or Hiller,,, and after that the pickings become slim with the likes of Elliott, Emery and Dubnyk...

I will also add that another year of Visnovsky, Hickey, Strait and Carkner is not all that comforting either...

@shlo @REDSpointofview  I think Heatley would be a mistake, look at his track record, in Ottawa he demanded a trade because he was demoted to the third line. This was in his first year of a 6 year contract. And let's face it Heatley would not look at the Islanders as an option.

IMO i would rather give Lee a shot on the first, and use that FA money to try and attract goaltending help

tag1

@mrcisback because the track record of snow/wang sucks in plain English mrc. When do YOU expect results and by results I mean winning some playoff series enough with the the future is bright and sunny with all our prospects. wang/snow deserve no benefit of the doubt.

@Ryan Sweeney @tag1 @mrcisback   Thank you very much Ryan. Thanks for simplifying it. Why does everyone always get so negative about every move the Islanders make. He had a lot of contacts with Islander players and felt comfortable coming here. Its just that simple. I'd rather hear 16 teams were interested in him as compared to zero. For crying out loud do we have to dissect every little move the team makes.

@Ryan Sweeney @tag1 Out of all the NHL teams right now I would think the Isles are probably one of the easiest to crack as a D man and that says a lot about snow and the job he has done with the back end.

@Ryan Sweeney @tag1 Actually Lee was a 6th round pick who stayed at Notre Dame but your point is well taken:  Good players can come out of college programs.

@tag1 @Ryan Sweeney  i dunno, does it matter? he was a coveted college defenseman that we are giving a shot in a lost season.  best case scenerio he is good enough to make the team and be an effective defenseman, worst case scenario he is not?

you do know that anders lee came to the isles in the same way, right?

@Ryan Sweeney "it was reported that 16 teams were interested in him."

and how many of those teams offered him to play in the NHL the following week?

ejej

@tag1- Yes, you did say last week that you were possibly going. Hey, give Matty Mo a five'r for me as well. Served his time here well and has been a trooper during the last couple of months. He just had a baby before getting moved, so that can't be the best of timing for his bride and himself as a new father.

The B's are on fire. I watched the game last night and it was roll four lines and play that stifling D. Chara was in his usual shutdown mode. Can't skate around him, he's got that wing span poke check, and in the corner's tough to beat when he comes a calling. Thank's Mad Mike...!

@ejej @tag1 I might go tonight ej, don't know yet, but if I do Moulson gets a hand from me. Boston is red hot right now and the Wild have been hot too so it should be interesting tonight but one thing is for sure the Wild won't be seeing the goaltending they saw last night.

@tag1- Hahaha Tag. Especially with me carrying his golf bag and Sham cutting the grass on his course...

All Shill BS aside, el Nino rolls into town tonight. The Wild got spanked pretty good last night in Beantown, should be interesting tonight on a back2back for them and needing points.

@erika @Vicp73 @since72  Sadly Erika we all know what the outcome will be, signing Nabakov to another extension. I'm willing to bet the farm

@Vicp73 @since72If only........ Reimer would be a perfect fit here, with no goalie contreversy!

Vicp73
Vicp73

@since72 Reimer just wants to be a starter, as long as Bernier is around that ain't happening. Also after watching 24/7 didn't look like Reimer was happy with  Carlyle, Maybe a fresh start somewhere else would do wonders. But if you think a 4th is going to get Reimer out of T.O don't hold your breath.

shlo
shlo

@since72 Did not know that Reimer will be  a free agent.  But for a 3rd or 4th I'll take a chance, if indeed he is the only one available for a trade. Again, if he falters ,you don't sign him. He may be a stop gap option.

since72
since72

@Vicp73 @since72 A 2nd and Poulin?  I think Toronto would do that, but I wouldn't.  Maybe a 4th since Reimer is a ufa after next season.  He has said that he wants to be a Leaf, so that could be a 'head case alert'.  Trades are tough.  With free agents, at least you know that the player is willingly signing here.  Anyway, we agree that we need to do somthing in goal!

Vicp73
Vicp73

@since72  Reimer is a great example, only 26 years old still has a lot of hockey left. All depends on what you have to give up, Edmonton gave up a 3rd round pick for Scrivens, and a 4th round pick for Fasth, If Reimer cost me a 2nd and maybe one of our current goalies i make the deal in a heartbeat

since72
since72

@Vicp73 @shlo @since72 @REDSpointofview      Who would you think is available via trade?  Reimer?  I think I would rather give Elliot or Gustavsson a chance and not give up anthing to get them.

Vicp73
Vicp73

@shlo @Vicp73 @since72 @REDSpointofview  Or try to pull off a trade in the off-season for a goalie, but considering we had the assets to make a deal(Vanek) for a goalie and that was fumbled, i really don't have much faith

@erika @gleichzahl @REDSpointofview @shlo

I'm reading your two posts,,, both from an hour ago...  In one you state that Snow has two primary jobs coming up and one of those is to go out and get Moulson back.  Then here you state that Snow will not pay him what he's worth.  So what is it???

REDSpointofview
REDSpointofview

@John Falcone @REDSpointofview @shlo

Koskinen has another year on that KHL deal.  I think Snow just has to scour the UFA's for a goalie as the Poulin/Nilsson combo appears to mean another disaster of a season and Nabokov is just too old to carry the load...

I'll go along with the defense but, another year of Visnovsky, Hickey, Strait and Carkner is another year of wheel spinning.  I would like to see two of those kids make the team and Hickey and Strait hit the trade market.  Carjner stays around just because every team needs someone who will punch another guy in the face and Visnovsky is the best power play option right now...

John Falcone
John Falcone

@REDSpointofview @shlo  Not sure about Moulson coming back, he benefitted from JT, but not the other way around.  I would like to see Anders Lee play the 1st line with JT and KO, that would give us size and a guy willing to go to the net.  Strome Nelson and Bailey on the 2nd, Frans Grabner and Cal on the 3rd.

I am afraid this off-season will be just like last year's with no big time goalie signing.  It's going to be Niellson and Poulin battling it out, and maybe Mikko comes in to save the day??

I wouldn't mind another year of Vis and Hickey; both are solid in their own end, it's guys like Carkner that worry me.  I think with prospects like Reinhart, Pedan, Pulock, and Mayfield in the pipeline, defense will sort itself out.  Those guys should be mature enough to handle the NHL, or at least 2 of them.

A 5'10" 175lb Swedish forward that he stated he wanted at the draft but lost out to Montreal by one pick.  So,,, he got his man and now has to try to get him to leave Sweden which I read might not be too easy.

On a lighter note, Snow can get Khabibulin and resign Nabokov and put almost 80 years of Russians in the nets...

gleichzahl
gleichzahl

@REDSpointofview @shlo  imo the moulson ship has sailed.  islanders decided they want faster skaters.  as for goalies, my hunch is they'll try for halak.  hiller will get snatched up elsewhere.  elliott might be a possibility as well.  but they have to try to do something, based on what we've seen so far of poulin (lousy) and nilsson (not enough).

Vicp73
Vicp73

@REDSpointofview @shlo  That list really isn't to intriguing  is Red? The two goalies on that list i would have taken a run at (Scrivens and Khodobin) have already been re-signed. Teams were shoring up their goal while our GM was busy Trading for a 5'10 '' Swedish forward

Ryan Sweeney
Ryan Sweeney

@erika @Ryan Sweeney @Vicp73 @shlo @REDSpointofview  i agree, was just speculating on heatley.  biggest concern is goalie needs though - that will be the determining factor for how much we are able to improve next season because without a new goalie it'll more than likely be another ugly season.

erika
erika

@Ryan Sweeney @Vicp73@shlo@REDSpointofviewForget it. Give the forwards and D-men in our system a chance. we have been accumulating them for over 8 yrs! Garth has 2 jobs this offseason: Get an NHL goalie, and offer MM a contract and hope he doesn't spit in your face, sign with the Rags, and win a cup! Family from CT, one of the 3 metro teams will sign him and get a bargain! The guy obviously wants to be an Islander. Do we know any other 30+ goal scorers that WANT to come here??

Don22
Don22

@Vicp73 @shlo@REDSpointofviewI doubt he would come here, but his options may be limited.  I wouldn't mind if it's a 1 year, even 2 year deal (and not at 7 per).  The problem to me is he seems a lot like Vanek.  If he puts up points, then it's not a problem.  But I think the fans might jump on him for "lazy" play.

Ryan Sweeney
Ryan Sweeney

@Vicp73 @shlo @REDSpointofview  agree.  heatley is interesting becuase hes clearly not the dynamic player he once was but can still play.  with that said tohugh, he knows that hes washed up and will be expecting a clear pay cut.  im very curious to what he'll get.

anders lee has to be the front runner right now. and we need a goalie before we need literally anything else.
