SCHEDULE RELEASED: Islanders to Open at Coliseum October 5th

The NHL has just released the 2013-14 season schedule. The Islanders will be playing in a re-aligned division called the Metropolitan Division with the Rangers, Devils, Flyers, Capitals, Penguins, Blue Jackets and Hurricanes. To make things really confusing for everyone, the other Eastern Conference division will be called the Atlantic Division (that is very real, very dumb, and not a joke).

The Islanders will open the season October 4th in New Jersey and head to the Coliseum for their home opener against the Blue Jackets on Saturday, October 5th.

Four of the Islanders games will be broadcast on NBCSN and two of the team’s games will be broadcast on NHL Network. There are another three games that will be broadcast nationally in Canada.

The Islanders will only host the Rangers once at the Coliseum because the outdoor game at Yankee Stadium (January 29th) counts as a home game for the Islanders. The teams play five times; three at the Garden, once at the Coliseum and once at Yankee Stadium.

There will be a gap in the schedule for the Olympics in February. The Islanders final pre-Olympic game is Saturday, February 8th and they will re-start on Thursday, February 27th.

The final regular season home game — potentially the last game at the Coliseum — is set for Tuesday, April 8th against Ottawa. The Islanders end the season with a three-game road trip culminating on Sunday, April 13th in Buffalo.
