Tavares: “Pretty Much Back to Normal”

Good news for the Islanders well ahead of the 2014-15 season: John Tavares says that’s he’s feeling just fine, thanks.

Tavares was a guest on WGR550 in Buffalo where he said that “everything’s pretty much back to normal,” noting that he skated with the London Knights last week.

Tavares added that he is “just happy I’m able to put this behind me, move forward, and look toward next season.”

Tavares was injured on February 20 at the Olympics in Sochi, suffering a torn MCL and meniscus. Luckily, he did not need surgery to repair the injury.

I love how Isles fans can criticize a team for making 2 finals, winning 1, making playoffs every year, 100pts/yr....while we havent won a series in 21 years..other teams make changes and call a huge failure what we can only dream of at this point (series wins, playoffs every year)...meanwhile Garth/Crappy still have jobs, year 8 of rebuild

It's Wang who doesn't care about winning. Snow and Capuano are probably amazed  their still in the NHL

Garth Snow is the most incompetent GM in the history of sports. He even makes Isiah Thomas look good! He is for all practical purposes GM for life as long as the Emperor Wang owns the team! The Islanders will never win a playoff seris under the current regime. They might not even make the playoffs under the trio of Wang, Snow and Capuano!

It's time to fire Cappy and Snow and hire the Bylsma and Shero. Two people who know how to win and put a great team on the ice. I think Bylsma dealt with too many egos and couldn't control the locker room but he's a great coach with young players and knows how to develop them. Cappy is an idiot to say the least. Look how great Brock Nelson is playing at Worlds. It's amazing how the Islanders keep losing with these coaches and GM while teams are firing winning coaches and GMs. The curse of the owner continues.

Pens just fired BOTH their coach and GM, ACCOUNTABILITY, it must be nice to root for a organization that isn't just happy making the playoffs and winning a round we used to be like that under Torrey, not no more that's for sure..

Orange2327 - Get over bashing Wang and Snow already.  It is annoying.  They are here right now and neither one is going anywhere any time soon.  You bitching about it 100 times on every post on this site isn't going to change anything and it is getting old.  I like what Snow has done during the rebulid right up until the Nino trade.  That deal and everything he has done since then (except drafting Pulock) has been brutal but it is what it is and you or me or anyone else on this site can't change anything.  I wish Wang would sell the team tomorrow but that is not reality.  Enough already.

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

did you expect the penguins to lose in the second round? i mean they were a top 5 team all year long...their expectations are cup or bust.  so a second round exit is EXTREMELY disappointing to them.  yes, we would be ecstatic with a second round exit this year, but its a completely different team in a completely different stage.

doc942

@cournoyer  Do you really think that Snow and Capuano go to work each day and don't care about winning.  Winning and caring about it are two different things.  Do you think Ted Williams and Ernie Banks didn't care about winning?  Or did they just not win despite caring about it?

tag1

@cournoyer Difference of having a ex player as part of ownership compared to having someone who didn't know squat about the sport when he bought the team and only cared about the real estate.

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

@tag1  you do realize that they have two world class players on their team, one of which is the best player in the world,  one of the highest payrolls, and theyve fallen short MULTIPLE times with that SAME coach and gm.

@tag1 Account-a-what...this is a strange word...here in Isles land....blah-blah who-bility....I cannot recognize that language...just sounds weird... Are we sure this exists in this small corner of our world??

@tag1 @cournoyer  And George Steinbrenner was a shipbuilder and an assistant football coach and didn't know jack about baseball and yet he became the best owner in baseball during his tenure.

tag1

@slapshot18_rs Here's what I realize, the Pens won more playoff series in the past month or so then the isles have won in the past 21 YEARS. If winning a round in the playoffs is falling short what do you consider continually missing the playoffs?

Two problems with the pens first goal tending and second, because they have to pay their 2 superstars so much they aren't able to have quality secondary lines, they had to trade some people who were looking for more money. This isn't the NBA where you can win with a couple of superstars playing most of the game you need to be able to roll 4 quality lines in the playoffs and the Pens haven't been able to do that. But, please, we have been horrible the past 21 Years including the 14 under wang and the 8 under snow and it's nothing but lame excuses around here from some of you and yes there are people who defend wang/snow on here go look it up yourself I'm not playing that game today, you just did it. Status quo is working real well for us, ain't it?

and thats actually a pretty fair remark since his worst work has come after that.
again, not defending snow. dont misinterpret that please!!!

David Rosenthal
David Rosenthal

@slapshot18_rs"I like what Snow has done during the rebulid right up until the Nino trade" Theres 1 complacent remark already...7+ years was good enough...Snow can say look they like me they really liked (or liked) me for so long..they are even giving me ANOTHER summer to sign x y z and fill  holes xyz

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

sigh. please show one post saying "8 year rrebuild is ok by me" from just one person. you guys generalize and say these things like the majority of the fanbase believes it and you guys are the smart ones that see through it all...but really theres no comments like that anywhere.

David Rosenthal
David Rosenthal

@slapshot18_rs @tag1Complacency allows Wang/Snow to get away with their failures, all they have to do is point to all the positive rebuilding after 8 years is alright by me posts and say see, we are doing wonderfully

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

@tag1  no because im more open minded than you guys.  i can see negatives just as clearly as you.  but its so obvious that i choose to talk about other things for the most part.  you guys barely talk hockey.  this has become a forum for you guys to strictly bash snow/wang. maybe you guys should exchange numbers and/or start your own little chat room called F..U..WANG...you guys get to be your obnoxious selves, and everyone else doesnt have to re-read the same garbage every single day.

You taking roll call now? There are a few people that are around these pages did you have a problem with doc backing you up because I don't

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

@tag1 @slapshot18_rs  im talknig about the back and forth with you and orange, who always seems to be around these pages.   and no, its perfectly fine that we disagree on topics.  everyone does.  but just because we disagree, does not mean i support wang/snow in any way what so ever, and thats basically the claim you guys have.

"disgree? you must love wang/snow."

tag1

@slapshot18_rs @tag1 So if we call someone out for making a comment we don't agree with like I did today you consider it to be flooding the pages with garbage and BTW I made the original comment about the firing and you guys responded to me I didn't go after anybody until I was addressed.

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

@tag1 @slapshot18_rs  becuase you guys are like a colt on here. if anyone says one thing slightly off from what you guys think (really its the way you interpret comments), it turns into you guys are right and everyone else doesnt know anythig about hockey.  meanwhile, you guys say some of the most ridiculous things from time to time. and most of the time its obnoxious but there you guys are, to support eachother.  this blog has gone down down down over the past few years and you guys are a big reason why.  you FLOOD the pages constantly with garbage, and no one can have different opinions.  its silly really.

tag1

@slapshot18_rs So a lot of us agree that wang/snow suck is that hard to understand considering their track record?

slapshot18_rs

no im just saying its adorable how much you guys support eachother. really is

isles23

@orange, But what exactly are you doing? Have you impacted a single thing? Your just shouting at the wind telling it to stop blowing. All your doing is annoying the person next to you.

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

@tag1 @slapshot18_rs  haha wow this is ridiculous.

this is my formal statement, use this and only this:

snow is not a good gm. he should be fired. i agree. shero should have been fired too. both organizations are in completely different situations so comparing the two is silly to me.  let me say IN MY OPINION so you guys can stop while youre ahead becuase i know the next statement is going to be something completely irrelevant or misconstrued

tag1
tag1

@slapshot18_rs You say he should be fired then you say he's in rebuild mode so you make excuses for him. He's been GM 8 years and we have squat to show for those 8 years.

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

shero was in WIN OR BUST mode.  snow is in REBUILD mode.  shero should absolutely be fired after that, and so should snow, believe me i want snow fired just as badly as everyone.  but hes not because hes in a REBUILD, not CUP OR BUST. i think snow has done a poor job, but it doesnt take a genius to distinguish the difference in their teams scenarios.

tag1
tag1

@slapshot18_rs So Shero deserved to get fired but snow deserves to keep his job?

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

just please, show me one sentence where i claimed to believe in wang and snow.  just one will do.

i said the penguins and islanders scenarios are incomparable, and they are.  how can you disagree with that

tag1

@slapshot18_rs It's true, keep putting all your eggs in the prospect basket, keep waiting, it's only 21 Years and counting

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

that team should have been a dynasty. but it was TERRIBLE in the playoffs. cup or bust, did you forget that? its been several years of bust.

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

@orange2327  so competent they were all fired today for under performing with world class talent.

tag1
tag1

@doc942 @tag1@cournoyer George had his flaws but he was hellbent on winning, wang doesn't have the same fire in the belly that George had.

doc942
doc942

@tag1 @doc942 @cournoyer  Very true... the time frame for winning was quick with George.

tag1
tag1

@doc942 @tag1@cournoyer He bought the team in 72 and got to the series in 76 and won the series in 77, wang bought the team 14 years ago and hasn't won a playoff series to compare the two is ridiculous especially when you consider George was willing to spend and wang isn't.

doc942
doc942

@tag1 @doc942 @cournoyer  So you knew Steinbrenner before he bought the Yankees?  Do you realize he was ridiculed for being a "bafoonish" owner prior to winning?  Then all of a sudden he was a genius.  But not before.  That's the point.

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

@tag1  fair enough - i do agree both teams under achieved.  but with a pending sale in progress, their goal is to keep expenses at a minimum, so why would they go out and fire/hire people?  and thats the difference.  the pens are doing the opposite, theyre spending every penny they can to get the best team on the ice.  so their scenarios are different. thats all. that doesnt mean i agree that the isladners should be keeping snow/cappy, but for the sake of minimizing expenses during a pending sale, i get it.

tag1
tag1

@slapshot18_rs IMO BOTH teams underachieved the difference is the Pens management has a cup ring on their resume while snow/cappy have squat on theirs, why should they get the benefit of the doubt?

BTW Bob McKenzie this morning tweeted that both would be fired and only Shero got fired.

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

point is, snow/cappy not being fired this year is not even REMOTELY similar to the penguins letting go of their management. theyve invested a TON of money into a stanley cup team, and havent been able to make it to the ECF when their goal is stanley cup or bust.  islanders are trying to nickle and dime, and while i dont agree with it, see how they could possibly be retained.  again, i do not agree with it.  i do not like wang/snow. but when you've invested that much money into a top 5 team year in and year out and they get tossed in the second round, it makes a lot of sense why they would fire them.  not to mention, they will have a lot of the same players next year, and will still have the mentality of stanley cup or bust.  makes perfect sense to try new management.  again, i want snow fired too but their scenarios are different. hope thats somewhat clear.

tag1
tag1

@slapshot18_rs So you feel that snow should be fired but when I say he isn't being held accountable you disagree, I don't get it.

tag1
tag1

@Steven Cook First off right off the bat Kunitz plays with Crosby, does he not? He's not on a secondary line. Second let's define secondary lines as your 3rd and 4th lines I don't feel their 3rd and 4th lines are as strong as they used to be and let me add that the pens aren't as gritty as they used to be so Crosby and Malkin have taken more abuse during the playoffs then they have in the past when they were more successful.

Steven Cook
Steven Cook

They don't have quality secondary lines?  Kunitz, Neal, Dupius, Jokinen, Sutter, Iginla last year, Stepniak this year.  Plus Letang, Martin, Niskanen and Maata on the blue line.  I would call those players quality.  They lose in the post season because their superstars come up small and Fluery is inconsistent.   I don't know how much more Shero can do except find another goalie.   Your arguement is nonsense.

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

@tag1 @slapshot18_rs  haha, again, not saying snow is a good gm, saying teh scenarios are different. its amazing how many times ive typed that and you have yet to pick it up.

tag1
tag1

@slapshot18_rs @tag1 Snow should have been fired for not getting a starting goalie LAST off season, then he followed that up with the Vanek debacle and he still has a job. You just don't get it.

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

@tag1 @slapshot18_rs  again, didnt say i agree with snow retaining his job, i said their scenarios are different and when you are an organization deemed one of, if if not the best in the entire NHL, losing in the second round is not acceptable.  rebuilding teams are given more leeway on this.

tag1
tag1

@slapshot18_rs @tag1 Oh really so how did they build upon that playoff appearance from last season? How was the follow up this season, acceptable to you because by the excuses you are making it sounds that way.

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

@tag1  its the object. but it wasnt the goal this year becuase our players arent ready yet. its really not rocket science.

tag1
tag1

@slapshot18_rs @tag1 No I think EVERY team's object should be to win the cup and when you have one team that just won a cup a few years ago compared to a team that last won a cup in 1983 and last won a playoff series in 1993 the team that deserves patience is the Pens not the Isles.

tag1
tag1

@slapshot18_rs So they get to keep their jobs because our bar is set so low, brilliant.

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

if we had cup expectations, they would be fired.

tag1
tag1

@slapshot18_rs You are clueless, they won't be out of a NHL job for long, unlike what would happen if snow/cappy got fired.

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

well maybe this firing was two years overdue because theyve been a bust in the playoffs for a few years now.  TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT NOT FIRING THEM TWO SEASONS AGO F...U...LEMIEUX & BURKLE

tag1
tag1

@orange2327 These 2 WON A CUP not too long ago and still got fired, unbelievable to cast stones at them.

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

@orange2327  again, i do realize.  you're comapring the penguins at this stage with the islanders at their current stage and thinking that they should be acting accordingly.  i totally get why other people refuse to come on this blog.  its people like you guys.

dont forget to like eachothers comments all the way down the thread.

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

im not defending anything. im saying its stupid for you to compare our teams situation with the penguins situation. and it is.

tag1
tag1

@slapshot18_rs @tag1 Right they have cup expectations we have just making the playoff expectations Their bar is set high ours real low, you defend this garbage and don't even realize it.

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

@tag1 @slapshot18_rs  hah again, havent seen anyone defending snow/wang and i looked again. you always say that and theres never evidence. maybe this time you can show me? probably not though becuase no one likes them you're just being bitter.

the penguins fired their gm and coach because after MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS with CUP EXPECTATIONS every single year, yeah, its time for a change.  to compare that scenario to the islanders, an openly rebuilding team, is extremely arrogant.  i understand your frustration but its n ot even close to the same scenario.

tag1
tag1

@orange2327 I know we should be casting stones with out PATHETIC record over the past 21 YEARS?
I love when they blame people who have nothing to do with hockey for the Isles woes, unbelievable. I think this is the only fan base out there that does that and that has fans rooting for the owner to make money and don't care about winning and losing, it's a joke.
