The Islanders Will Play Pittsburgh in the First Round

Kevin Schultz, Islanders Point Blank:

In Boston tonight the Senators beat the Bruins 4-2, earning two points. That means the Islanders have been knocked down to eighth place in the final regular season standings. So, on the 20th anniversary of the Islanders’ second round win over Mario Lemieux’s Penguins in 1993, John Tavares and the Islanders will play Sidney Crosby and the Penguins in the first round of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.

The NHL will announce the exact dates of the entire playoff schedule tonight. We’ll have those details as soon as possible.

In the meantime if you’re projecting schedules, the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh is currently booked on Tuesday and Saturday nights this week. The Coliseum, on the other hand, is open until June 1.

Here are the rest of the Eastern Conference matchups:
Montreal vs. Ottawa
Washington vs. NY Rangers
Boston vs. Toronto
