The Morning Skate: Tavares Out Tonight(?), Al Trautwig, Ex-Isles

John Tavares missed yesterday’s practice after blowing a tire and going hard into the boards on Tuesday night. Yes, we have the GIF of that:

We’ll likely know whether Tavares is in or out after today’s morning skate.

Lots of ex-isle news today:

The Cornell Sun did a long piece on Matt Moulson’s tough road to and through the NHL that is now a bit tougher since he has to spend the winter with last place Buffalo. It’s an interesting read and goes through most of the Moulson history of not making Pee Wee teams, getting drafted in a round that doesn’t exist anymore and Los Angeles letting him go. But I have three gripes:

1) The article speaks as though it’s a given that Vanek signs with Minnesota this summer. It’s a serious possibility but you know what happens when we assume…

2) The author thinks that Moulson played “on the Islanders’ top line, with Tavares at wing and Moulson at center”. Oy.

3) The author cannot spell Vanek (sic’d): “…for star winger Thomas Vaneck. Vaneck is an elite player and led…”

I’m not certain that this person follows hockey.

h/t to Denby for the link

Some crazy stuff with Al Trautwig yesterday. He allegedly called this person’s parents around midnight after tweeting back and forth. Deadspin also picked up on the story. Here are some of the tweets, which have not at all been deleted:

Speaking of deleting tweets, here’s a fun one that was deleted from Nashville’s twitter feed after their game on Long Island Tuesday night:

ALSO: Griffin Reinhart on going back to Juniors… Nino Niederreiter got lit up… Rick DiPietro has a GAA north of 5 and a SVP of .839 after three games in the AHL with Charlotte

And your moment of zen:
