Visnovsky won’t play in Sochi

Lubomir Visnovsky was evaluated by Islanders team doctors after Saturday’s loss to the Avalanche, and the team has decided to hold him out of the Sochi Olympic games.

The 37-year-old defenseman has missed 46 of the Isles’ 60 games this season with a concussion, and the team does not want to risk any further injury in non-NHL action.

“I’m honored to have been selected to represent Slovakia at the Sochi Games,” Visnovsky said, after the team announced their decision.

“I’m disappointed that I will not have this opportunity to compete for my country, but respect the decision the Islanders have made. I’m excited to watch Team Slovakia compete throughout the next two weeks and wish them all the best.”

Wang bring back Jimmy Devellano they have not drafted well since he left. He may be old but he would be the antithesis of Snow, please we can't take it anymore!

I would trade him at the deadline too, he is just a walking injury who needs him!

They should trade vishnovsky

It's always something.....I bet next fall he will be homesick and want to stay home

Get the 2nd round pick back....and use it to trade for one of the decent goalies that will be available for trade

I really hope Viz was in agreement with this decision, or we are about to go one less defensive that we can afford.  Pissing this guy off would not be a good idea, we are short on quality dmen.

The team decides he's not eligible to play for his country at the Olympics, but meaningless NHL games are just fine.

Conversation between snow and Viz went something like this "Viz I have some good news and some bad news first the bad news you can't go to the Olympics now the good news you won't be part of this circus much longer your getting traded soon"

@jepliberty The people who run this site and RM have a lot in common. never once have they criticized the owner and gm of this team....hmmmm...interesting

@tag1

And like any circus sideshow, populated with buffoonish characters fumbling and bumbling about, performing outlandish sight gags, whose true purpose is to grab the audience's attention while the center ring performance is readied for the spotlight...

The Islanders were never more than Chuck Wang's sideshow; which is why he kept Milbury as carnival barker for years, made a big splash with freakish contracts for DiPietro and Yashin, hired and fired a Stanley Cup winning GM over a 30 day period, anointed the back-up goalie as the architect for his never ending "rebuild"...

All the absurdity and craziness witnessed over the past decade was not the result of poor judgment, but was carried out as planned, directed and controlled from the top by Chuck Wang. Hockey was never the focus; winning and losing always incidental to what was to unfold before our eyes in the center ring...

And while the audience is mostly appalled and disgusted by what they see, they still focus on the hockey sideshow, just as Chuck intends...

At one time, the main act was a 77-acre land scheme, and now the center ring is at Barclays Center, where Chuck is reportedly getting paid, "Tens of Millions", to do absolutely nothing related to hockey...

And through the years, one thing does remain certain, Chuck Wang is master at running diversions...

I wonder what the clown car brings next.

Hey Camb33, yeah I know that, but RM posted to me and I replied, but the moderator saw fit to delete it for no good reason whatsoever, so perhaps the moderator needs to find another line of work, and take this blog with them.

@rmreturns ej is pissed at the many many many years of futility that we as fans have suffered rooting for this team. He's rightfully pissed at the owner, the GM and people like you who make lame excuses for them. With the track record this organization has had under wang (14 years and ZERO playoff series wins) there is more reason to expect more of the same and less reason for optimism.

Your "fan club" consists of wang/snow sycophants plain and simple.

tag1
tag1

@rmreturns Once again give me something to celebrate and I will, it's not my fault that this organization has had nothing substantial to celebrate for 21 years (FACT). When a GM doesn't address weaknesses in the off season I expect failure which is what I got.

I have to question how passionate guys like you are who aren't pissed at all this losing and keep making excuses for the powers that be.

rmreturns

@tag1: The bulk of my fan club consists of a gaggle of folks who repeatedly post the same 1 or 2 sentence message, 50 times. My boy ejej manged to call me a schill, arrogant, a fraud and a t-u-r-d in 2 sentences.

That's impressive, and pretty much sums up all he has to offer this blog.. One day, he might come up something called a potential solution.

Be impressive if after demanding a new coach, he actually put a name as a potential replacement. M optimism always leaves me hope he might grow his game..

rmreturns

@ejej.. I will simply point out you offer nothing but complaint. In every post, the same empty message.

Your a just a barking yip dog, all bark, no bite.

It's not arrogance, it is a total dismissal of you.

rmreturns

@tag1.. I prefer to celebrate success, you prefer to celebrate failure. I expect success, you expect failure.

A simple review of both our posts confirms this point.

Drifting around that fact, doesn't change that fact.

@ejej ej his "fan club" consists of apologists and excuse makers like himself not realists like us.

Here's the thing did you ever hear someone say My heart says this but my head says this well my head said since the GM did nothing in the off season it meant the Isles would miss the playoffs. You need to blame snow for them missing the playoffs and not fans on a sports blog.

ejej

@tag1- Tag, it's either a SCHILL or ARROGANCE. Either way, a fraud that reeks like sun basted t u r d

rmreturns

@tag1: simple difference. I expected a playoff team that could win a round. You expected massive failure. You got failure, maybe even massive failure if the team keeps losing.

I expect upside, you expect downside. Enjoy your success in correctly picking downside. Your prize is watching 16 NHL teams in the playoffs, the Isles probably won't be one of those teams.

If that " victory " gives you a reason to thump your chest, good for you. If it gives you " cred " with my fan club, better for you. I'd still rather watch the Isles in the playoffs, and expect them to be in the playoffs in '14-'15.

If cheering for defeat gives you a sense of victory, rock on TAG1.

@ fan42.. Agreed with your post. But when the upper limit of the comment is a slur, it is not alright.

After the same guy writes " this sucks " three times, the next 47 posts with the same message are not alright.

@rmreturns For how smart and informed you think you are you picked the Isles to make the playoffs this season and you picked them to win a playoff series so deflect all you want but right now the Isles sit at least 9 points behind 13 teams in the Eastern Conference, pretty pathetic season under wang/snow, AGAIN.

Your list of lame excuses are old and tired, injuries (everyone gets them), the arena (Red Wings do well in a dump), poor goal tending (GM's problem), poor defense (GM's problem) owner hiring his backup goalie as GM which made the Isles the joke of the sports world, owner giving a goalie a 15 year contract which he didn't deserve (even if he did have a gold medal he didn't deserve a 15 year contract) owners $$$$ losses greatly exaggerated by you and others on here, but try putting a team on the ice that wins a few playoff series and see how you cut those losses, but according to you and others on here the owner and GM aren't responsible for anything.  Poor charlie and snowy they do such a wonderful job and they get no love from us. Cry me a river.

fan42long

Fans a right to vent in a public forum. Some of language is immature, but that doesn't negate the fact that they are rightfully disgusted and want to blow off steam. The Islanders situation is the result of an owner that doesn't hire the right people. Then the avalanche of ineptitude eventually lands on the NVMC ice. Compare the NYI to other organizations and you realize that "their way" is unconventional, and while unconventional isn't always bad, it isn't working here. So you are right, we can't change things, unless we all just stay home. We won't. We can complain and point out what we perceive to be wrong though. That is what these forums are for in part.

@ Jep...your not being clear, at all... If you think Isles management personally reads this thread, your wrong. That belief is right up their with urging the NHL to remove Wang, protest chants at games, or not showing up at games having an impact on management. But some folks enjoy the idea that it might have an impact. Wang will sell, when Wang wants to sell. All the cute little nicknames- cranky kids letting everybody know their unhappy, and CANT DO A THING ABOUT IT. It is kind of pathetic. But it makes for a fun read. Your powerless to make a change, so calling somebody a third grade insult makes you feel better? Plain sad, but I guess it appeals to like minds.

Concerning the guys picked over the last 6 years, 1/2 can't buy a beer. So it's the perfect time to trade them, if your into the Mike Milbury thing- trade them young for old declining skills guys. So many smart people here, ready to make the same mistake. Same guys complaining were calling for the head of KO last year, and calling CdH a bust 5 months ago. It is easy to complain, because when your proven wrong in 12 months time, nobody remembers. Jep, you have been here long enough to know many of my fans wrote those comments on KO, and CdH. You want to give credit to their posts and ignore that truth- enjoy..

You have probably discovered I don't worry about my fan club. Nor do I value the opinions of guys who post 50 times a thread, make crude sexual comments, complain about how prompt a pregame thread is posted, actually insult the avatar of the moderator or celebrate the teams short comings. Ignoring things like payroll structure, revenue streams, the CBA, to offer up the same one line complaints is a source of humor to me. It shows a staggering lack of knowledge, but it makes for great fun. But on occasion, I do like to acknowledge the efforts of my fan club to draw me into a mud slinging contest. I like being constantly in the thoughts of a few, even when I can't post. Can't stay away from me, even when they don't like me. Envy anyone?

The team is having a disappointing season because the goaltending hasn't been close to NHL average, it's best defender missed 1/2 the season, and most nights 2/3 of the starting blue line doesn't have 100 starts.

That doesn't matter to most, but that Potvin guy claims you need about 250 NHL starts to make a decision on the ability of a defender. He might know something about defense.

Maybe you agree, maybe you don't. I figured this was a better response then a one sentence insult, or some comment about the owner not spending money after at least decade of losses. Some folks would even argue that point. Or swear they are never going to Brooklyn, then complain about the sight lines of seats they just swore to never sit in. Dismiss advanced stats, because their " eye" tells them different. If their " eye" was that good, they'd be NHL scouts and not posting 50 times a day on an internet site.

It's Monday morning, enjoy the Olympics. I should get back here on Tuesday or Wednesday to check for a response.

@rmreturns Banner days? Under Wang, and Snow it's more like banner seasons under these two Aholes, with Shams type, including me. Tjhey have giving us much ammo on these thread al ALL of it so richly deserved, so unless a major, major turnaround next season, expect much more.

rmreturns

@shamwow..I figure I should just respond, after all your trying so hard to draw me into an insult exchange. Family invites, fun games to watch, a few other obvious references.

Personal insults over the internet don't work. If they have an impact, it is impossible to see through a computer screen. But if it improves your standing with the your gaggle of board buddies, fire away. And no, not Sochi for the Olympics. Actually in the lake placid area- that arena is actually tiny.

The Isles are having tough times, these are banner days for you and your crew. Celebrate failure!

@orange2327

Yashin could be the guy to pry loose, who unnamed Islander sources suggest may be the next Pavel Bure, Kril Petrov from the KHL...

Damn, 2020 is gonna be our year! RM feels it!
