During the third period of tonight’s game, forward Colin McDonald took a two minute minor for a hit to the head of Los Angeles’ Trevor Lewis. Lewis was not injured on the play. It was a bad penalty to take in the neutral zone with the lead in the third period and the mistake was compounded when the Kings tied the game at two on the ensuring power play. Will this one get a look from the league?
Earlier this season, the NHL took a look at a hit from Michael Grabner and suspended the forward for two games even though there was no call on the play.
If the NHL does take a look at this one, McDonald will likely be penalized as a repeat offender. Last January, he was suspended two games for a boarding hit on Pittsburgh’s Ben Lovejoy, seen below.
