The Islanders have claimed defender Brian Strait off waivers from the Pittsburgh Penguins. Strait is a 6-1, 200lb 25-year old drafted in the third round of the 2006 draft. He went to Boston University and has spent the last three seasons with the Penguins AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre. Strait has played a total of 12 NHL games over the last two seasons in Pittsburgh.
The Islanders are once again at the 23-man roster limit, plus three suspended players who do not count towards the roster.
