After 16 games with no points and a -11 rating Blake Comeau is done as a New York Islander, for now. The 25-year old was placed on waivers today. If he is not claimed by another NHL team, he will report to Bridgeport. This may be why Nino Niederreiter was scratched the last few games — to give Comeau a ‘last shot’ to stay before a move was made.

Who will fill the spot? Justin DiBenedetto, Bridgeport’s best left wing after Ullstrom, makes sense as the next man in line for a call up but he is banged up and didn’t play last weekend. Tim Wallace a left wing signed this summer and a career minor leaguer has been playing well with 14 points in 18 games. Long-time Sound Tiger and Islander Jeremy Colliton has been centering David Ullstrom for much of the season, another option. Casey Cizikas is another center option, with 12 points in 18 games.

If Comeau had any trade value, believe me he would have been traded. This was likely Snow’s solution after finding no offers for him. Remember, it’s hard to make a trade when the player you’re moving has a line of 0-0-0 through 16 games and has been a healthy scratch.
