FRIDAY NIGHT NOTES: Poulin Recalled, MSG/TWC Deal

The Islanders recalled Kevin Poulin from Bridgeport on an emergency basis today. To make room, Travis Hamonic was shifted to IR retroactive to February 4th. Hamonic has not yet resumed skating with the Islanders but can come off of IR any day the Islanders deem him ready to go (which is probably not for at least another week or two).

It’s a curious move and one of two things are happening: The Nabokov trade winds have picked up considerable steam or his flu has, uh, picked up considerably.

MSG/TWC DECIDE TO SHAKE HANDS, YOU’RE NOT THAT MUCH BETTER OFF
Thanks to the Governor and Attorney General, TWC and MSG have entered into a preliminary agreement that will see MSG appear on Time Warner television sets later tonight. But, of course, this doesn’t come without some harm to you the customer. I’ll let Deadspin explain:

And bear this in mind: a victory can also be a loss. The Time Warner/MSG feud was over carrier fees. MSG wanted a 53 percent increase in what Time Warner was paying to carry the channel. Presumably, they settled for something less than that, but Time Warner’s costs have still gone up. And that’ll be passed along to you, dear cable subscriber, the next time Time Warner adjusts its subscriber fees. You really have no say in the matter, nor did you ever. As your reward for suffering through seven weeks without basketball and hockey, you’re only getting a bigger cable bill.
