Uniondale, NY — Nassau Coliseum — MSG+
Instead of starting off your Super Bowl Sunday watching six hours of football pre-game, in a special afternoon matinee at the Coliseum, you can start it off with hockey. The Islanders and Devils square off for the second time in four days and the third time in 16.
The Devils got trounced in Pittsburgh yesterday afternoon, 5-1. Martin Brodeur gave up five goals for the second straight game and the team as a whole was out shot 30-16. If there was ever a time when the Islanders could take advantage of a tired opponent, this would be it. The Islanders are 2-1 against the division so far this year, and today looks to be a great opportunity to earn some more divisional wins. Those will be very important in a short season that is comprised of a lot of divisional games.
The Devils are expected to start backup Johan Hedberg, who despite being a backup, was 3-0 with a .970 save percentage against the Islanders last season. His counterpart would likely be Evgeni Nabokov, who has had a few days off and has played well so far in six of seven Islander games.
As far as lineups, Colin McDonald is out again today, so I imagine we won’t see any changes. Josh Bailey did skate at practice the other day, but likely still needs a few days to get into game shape.
