Pittsburgh, PA — Consol Energy Center — NBCSN, TSN
Tonight the Islanders head to Pittsburgh for a nationally televised game against the Penguins. It’s another important divisional battle in a season chock full of them. The Pens are 3-2 on the young season and are coming off a 2-1 win in Ottawa on Sunday. Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are both healthy and doing their usual Crosby and Making things (namely, scoring at a point per game pace). But the Pens leader in goals is James Neal, who already has four and is coming off a 40-goal season a year ago. In net they’ve sort of got two starting goalies in Marc-Andre Fleury and Tomas Vokoun, who was signed in the off-season for two-years and $4 million. They’ve split the starts thus far and there’s no word yet on who will be in net tonight.
For the Islanders, the lineup is going to be similar to Sunday in Winnipeg. In is Casey Cizikas for Eric Boulton, while Thomas Hickey will stay in. Travis Hamonic looks to be a gametime decision and, if he sits, it would likely mean our first look this season at Radek Martinek. Evgeni Nabokov starts again in goal.
In other news, Jesse Joensuu will miss 5-7 weeks after hernia surgery.
