HEY, GOT ANY ROOM FOR ANOTHER GOALIE?Weslosky, whose grades “fell short,” off to Bemidji

UPDATED at 3:20 pm – Islanders goalie prospect Jase Weslosky is transferring to Bemidji State. Weslosky, a 2006 4th round pick, was ruled “academically ineligible” to play at St. Cloud State. (Details and stats here from USCHO). He now has to sit out a year, and the Islanders – pending an NHL ruling on a complicated matter - could lose his rights per the CBA on Aug. 15, 2010.

Islanders brass has to decide if Weslosky is a prospect worth signing. Scouts that Point Blank has spoken with believe he has “NHL ability,” “has the tools and the guts” and is “definitely worth a try, starting in the ECHL.” The St. Cloud captain called Weslosky’s loss, “A blip on our radar. We’ve moved past it.” Niiiiiice.

It’s possible that, by falling short academically, Weslosky may have screwed up his chance to someday play in the NHL.
