Islanders Lock Up Brian Strait for Three Years

Newsday is reporting that the Islanders have agreed to terms on a three-year contract with defender Brian Strait. The Islanders picked up Strait off waivers from the Penguins on January 18th. SB Nation’s Penguins blog noted at the time that it seemed the Pens liked Strait but were hoping to sneak him through waivers. The defender has played very well next to Mark Streit for the first six games of this season.

Bob McKenzie reports that the deal is a one-way deal with an average annual value of $775,000.
