Islanders sign F Boyes to one-year, $1 million deal

According to Newsday’s Arthur Staple, the New York Islanders have signed unrestricted free agent forward Brad Boyes to a one-year, $1 million deal. Boyes, 30, collected 23 points – eight goals and 15 assists – in 65 games this past season in Buffalo.

The six-foot, 195-pound Boyes has scored 158 goals in 558 NHL games, since entering the league back in 2003 with the San Jose Sharks. The Mississauga, Ontario-born Boyes, who was selected 24th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, had back-to-back 30-plus goal seasons for the St. Louis Blues in the 2007-08 (43) and 2008-09 (33) seasons.

Boyes is expected to compete for a spot on one of the Islanders’ top three lines.
