REPORT — Hub Project to Be Awarded to Don Monti, Bruce Ratner Also Involved
Kevin Schultz , Islanders Point Blank:
According to a report from the Long Island Business News, County Executive Ed Mangano will award the Hub Project to Don Monti and his company Renaissance Downtowns tomorrow.
A development team headed by Donald Monti of Plainview-based Renaissance Downtowns has been chosen to redevelop the 77 acres surrounding the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, according to officials familiar with the plan.
The development group headed by Monti includes RXR Realty, Jones Lang Lasalle and Woodbury-based Spector Group. Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano was expected to unveil the plan on Tuesday, the officials said.
Monti spoke at length with IPB over the summer, making himself the only developer to openly acknowledge that they would work with the Islanders. Now with the Islanders out of the picture, Monti can’t be blamed for being the one to make them leave and who knows how much leeway he will have in redeveloping the area with or without an arena.
Oh don’t worry, this gets much more interesting. Bruce Ratner, of all people, is also reported by LIBN to be involved in what sounds like an advisory type position.
Brooklyn Barclays Center developer Bruce Ratner has also been selected to assess the aging Coliseum and provide an optimization report to the county on how to best market the facility, officials said.
Charles Wang doing a favor for Mangano and the beleaguered County on his way out? A way to get the Islanders out of their lease prior to 2015? Who knows. But these are certainly interesting developments, if true.
IPB has reached out to Renaissance Downtowns for comment. This post will be updated if anything comes back from them.
