Rick DiPietro Being “Facetious” in Suicide Comment (Update)
3:51pm: Isles GM Garth Snow: “We are aware of Rick’s comments today and the severity of them. We will handle them internally as we do with all player matters. This is an opportunity for Rick to play lots of games in Bridgeport.”
Original Story: Earlier today, Kevin Mathers of News12 tweeted some of Rick DiPietro’s candid thoughts on being demoted to the AHL. One of those thoughts mentioned DiPietro contemplating suicide, according to Mathers:

According to the NY Post’s Bretty Cyrgalis, DiPietro says he was being facetious.

ESPN’s Katie Strang caught up with DiPietro to verify those comments (multiple tweets strung together):
Anyone that knows DiPietro knows that he can have a pretty dark, self-deprecating sense of humor. DP admits its been a tough 3 yrs…
Considering how hard he works and how much he cares, has been absolutely brutal to endure what he has been through…
Credits wife for getting him through tough times & said he made off-hand comment abt what would happen if he didn’t have her support…”
The Islanders, per Newsday, will have a statement on DiPietro later.
