Sound Tigers 3, Springfield 2 (SO) — Ullstrom’s Backhander (of Judgement?) Wins It in Shootout
Kevin Schultz , Islanders Point Blank:
On Saturday night in Massachusetts, David Ullstrom finished off a seven round shootout with what can only be described as the Swedish Backhand of Judgement (with all due respect to LHH and Frans Nielsen). This came after a sprawling, awkward, falling backwards save from Kevin Poulin in the sixth round.
Poulin and his opponent on the other side of the ice, Paul Dainton, put on quite a show tonight stopping most everything that came their way. For the Sound Tigers netminder, it was his second game in a row and he played very well, stopping 37 of 39 shots plus a few more in the skills competition. Dainton made 32 saves and was named first star of the game for his effort.
Video of the full shootout competition is below. You can forward along to the 7:45 mark of the video to check out Poulin’s save, followed by Ullstrom’s goal. I didn’t cut the video down more, figuring you could use a good hockey fix during the lockout.
Bridgeport is now 4-1 on the year and head to Worcester tomorrow for a 3pm matinee against the Sharks, who beat them 5-1 on Friday night.
