There Were 242 Penalty Minutes in Last Night’s Sound Tigers Game (Video)

The Sound Tigers lost 5-2 to Springfield last night, but that’s not necessarily going to be the newsmaking headline when there were 242 penalty minutes combined between the two teams. Here’s the full highlight video, with the fights starting around the 3:00 mark.

At the 3:30 mark, a 5-on-5 brawl breaks out off the faceoff. Mike Fornabaio at the CT Post breaks down the action:

Nino Niederreiter served the extra minor and, coming out of the box, was called offside on a two-on-one with Sean Backman. Off the draw, Dalton Smith went after him. Mike Halmo tried to jump in between. And all hell broke loose. When Halmo and Smith broke free throwing at each other, other players paired off. Dalton Prout came out of the pile with Niederreiter, who covered himself up as Prout waited, guns cocked.

Later on in the game, Brandon DeFazio got dumped pretty hard behind the Springfield net (4:45 mark) and that started another fracas. All five guys paired up but only one serious fight came out of it.

You can check out the lengthy boxscore here, complete with Nathan McIver and Scott Campbell racking up 27 penalty minutes a piece for the Sound Tigers.
