As you well know by now, John Tavares is over in Europe playing for SC Bern alongside Islanders captain Mark Streit. Tavares has been playing very well with (for the most part) non-NHL level teammates. He’s got 12 goals and 31 points in 21 games with a +8 rating to go with it. That’s a 1.47 point per game pace, which is a quite a bit more than what he put up last year in the NHL (about .99ppg). Of course, that’s mostly due to the weaker competition in Swiss A.
One of his latest goals came last week against GE Servett, which was in a 4-3 win for Bern. Tavares scored Bern’s second of the game — and assisted on the first — with this nice spin move in the low slot:
Through 30 games Bern is third in the Swiss A League, two points behind first place. Another neat video coming from across the Atlantic is the following of Tavares’ world-class stickhandling skills. We’ve seen it before in a better looking uniform, but hey, it’s still cool.
