One of the reasons for the Islanders recent hot streak and playoff chase has been defender Lubomir Visnovsky. Visnovsky has been part of an upgraded defense this year; he’s a +12 with 14 points in 33 games since returning from Slovakia. He’s also got the best on-ice corsi on the team, 26th in the entire NHL, at +14.32.
In last night’s overtime, a shot from the Jets rang off the post and caught Evgeni Nabokov well out of the crease. But Visnovsky was there to not only get his body on Kyle Wellwood’s shot, but clear it as well. As the announcer said, “goaltender number two makes a fabulous save.”
