With Landry Retuned, Roster Almost Set

Kevin Schultz

This morning the Islanders announced that they had returned Jon Landry to Bridgeport. Landry’s exit means the Islanders are down to 24 players on the active roster plus the suspended Josh Bailey and Jesse Joensuu, who don’t count towards that number.

Lubomir Visnovksy, despite not being in camp and threatened with suspension has not been officially suspended by the team (yet). While we’re on the topic, Arthur Staple says that it “appears” Visnovsky will join the Isles in the first week of February.

So, essentially when if the Islanders return Griffin Reinhart to his junior team, they’ll be down to 23. That means Ryan Strome will stay, for now. Once Joensuu and Bailey are ready, the Islanders will have to make some decisions. The first of those will probably be returning Strome to junior after five games. Another could be returning Colin McDonald to Bridgeport. As for Thomas Hickey and Joe Finley, they need to hang around for 10 games or 30 days, otherwise their old teams can snap them back up if the Islanders attempt to send them down.

Here are the 24 Islanders, plus two suspended Islanders, that are on the roster today:

Josh Bailey (S)
Eric Boulton
Brad Boyes
Matt Carkner
Casey Cizikas
Rick DiPietro
