Islanders Loan Kirill Kabanov to MODO (Sweden)

Kevin Schultz

The Islanders have agreed to loan prospect Kirill Kabanov to MODO of the Swedish Elite League for the remainder of the 2013-14 season, according to MODO’s website. Kabanov had been playing for the Islanders in the AHL for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, where he has three goals and no assists in 16 games.

It’s been a rocky season for Kabanov, who earlier in the year was demoted by the team to Stockton of the ECHL for about a month. That was, possibly, for disciplinary reasons although the reports at the time varied. He was recalled from Stockon in mid-November and has been in and out of the Sound Tigers lineup as a healthy scratch since then. Kabanov has played in only three of the team’s last nine games.

Kabanov, 21, was originally a third round pick of the Islanders in 2010. His three-year entry level contract is set to expire after the 2014-15 season.

MODO had been looking to add players to their team, as they currently face a few injuries and players leaving. They sit in 9th of 12 teams in the SEL standings with 16 games remaining.

Anaheim said under no uncertain terms are they trading Jonas Hiller but i really have my eye on there other goaltender Frederick Anderson. He's only 24 big 6/04 with an 11-2 record and .927 save %. If i was Snow i'd have my sights set directly on Andersen right now.

@Zee Executioner  Have you seen Harrington play?Let me tell you he a drop dead stop attack, in youre face defense men, who uses his body .He is probably the best defensive prospect in the minors, you will know him in a few years either playing for the Penguins or another team and yes this is exactly what we need he is always a plus hockey player. I do not even know what he is doing this year but  dollars to donuts will put money on it he is in the plus. The problem is the Penguins will be asking a lot more then my imaginary trade.

Should have brought Kabanov up and loaned Bailey to Modo!

Kabanov is a very talented hockey player.Been hurt and mentally is a little immature.Seen him play in the Juniors and Memorial Cup run.  The kid can handle the puck as well as anyone on the Ice,sometimes passes way to much and that is why he does not score as many goals as he should . He Needs to be a little more selfish. As for trades, Lee,Martin and Bailey for Harrington .And if you think we are giving to much you have not seen Harrington play .Put it this way he basically covered all of  Maatta mistakes while he learned to play N.H L style Hockey.Pittsburgh is over loaded at defense and may trade someone they will regret later, but they have to make a decision soon. PoulIiat probably spelling it wrong was lights out in Jr Tourney in December it is either him or Harrington that makes the Big Club ,Pittsburgh is going to move Defense men before the trade deadline that is almost certain.

I remember part of the ju$tification in letting PA walk was because we had no room for him with all the wings we had coming up like niño, Kabanov, Petrov, and Lee.

Well at least that money was given to Bailey so it worked out for everyone ... Lol. Putting prospects in the hall of fame or all star games before they even set foot on an NHL surface is a dangerous game. But it is the 3 card monte that snowwang have been running to perfection.

mrcisback

@truth77 @mrcisback Your exactly right, there a scary team for sure and there doing it w/o the 2nd best player in hockey out with an injury.  Its amazeing what a year makes because they had the 3rd overall pick in the draft last year and look where they are now. What an impact a dominant goaltender can have on the success of a hockey team.

mrcisback

@Darren Breton   More like why didn't they go after Ben Bishop.  All of our goaltending problems would be over and we would be sitting exactly where Tampa is in the standings right now.

@truth77I'll just repeat myself- we need a better coaching staff in BP and a better goalie coach.  We have the talent, we don't have the staff to do something with the talent.  And than  we must do something with the big club coaching  staff......some of our kids will do well DESPITE the coaching staff.

@dkdk Every organization yes that is EVERY will boast and promote their prospects, put them on a pedestal anoint them all stars.  All team fan bases will over value their own prospects all the time.  So please explain exactly how this has anything to do with the GM and the owner pulling the proverbial wool over everyone's eye?  Your agenda (along with Orange) is so frigging tiresome.

Zee Executioner
Zee Executioner

Just wait another 38 years, Dk, and it'll all work out. Wang is an outstanding owner.

Just wait until 2015, when they send the Coli off with an outstanding 21st overall in year 9 of the rebuild and either barely squeak in or miss the playoffs.

That'll show em! This team is winning the Cup again! We may all be worm food, but a "real fan" is in it for the long haul, right?

@mrcisback

And guess what, Snow's not pursuing a starting goaltender this coming offseason either...

Poulin's the next great young NHL netminder - Patrick Roy said that! He did, didn't he? And even if he didn't say that, he inferred it. And inference is key to building a winning Organization!

@Dzruggie If that isn't an intentional projection, i don't know what is.

dkdk

Yes dz every org does promote and boast about kids, we are the only org though that doesn't add to it or move forward. And we are the only one th 10% of the fanbase thrilled by this. Ask for nothing get nothing.

I am also a giant fan and subscribe to the Giant News. They had an interview with Mara and they asked his lesson learned about this past season. He said empty seats the last game. That is it. We don't win and put a good product to the fans people won't come.

So to you I have an agenda, great. And it is tiring. Even better. For me 20 years of wheel spinning going nowhere is tiring. Fortunately more and more seem to fall of this side of the fence, maybe it will get to be everyone one day which will then lead to change.

dkdk
dkdk

Mitch .... Our rebuild is a polite way of saying to the naive that we will be at the cap floor for the next 8-10 years. And some eat it up. It is purely to spend as little as possible.

dkdk
dkdk

Exactly zee it really is getting a little tiring hearing about this pipeline when the last pipeline by and large e failed miserably. But even if this next wave are all stars, at some point you need to augment them with players from the outside just as you noted the other day. No team has ever won a cup with only drafted players Nd waiver pickups. And for everyone patting snow on the back for having picked up some waiver gems, they should really understand 2 things ....... 1 we get first crack at most of them because we were the worst team in the league and 2 - if you are drafting and developing players you wouldn't have needed to pick 4 guys off of waivers.

So snow is getting roses thrown at his feet for crafting a bottom feeder to get other team scraps? And my new favorite theory from the apologists/snow blowers, don't give snow crap for trading niño because he is a Bust anyway! Huh, I didn't realize someone other than snow drafted niño? The fact that your defense ofa bad trade is the pick itself was horrible ..... Well that just shows me the overall thought process is on the 15 year journey to mediocrity.

@victor pereira @shamwow @mrcisback  I would definitely go after a top goaltender in the off season. I'm really not to confident in Poulan after 5 or 10 good games.  He might turn out great and he might not but having two top goaltenders isn't a bad problem to have either.

since72
since72

@victor pereira @since72 @shamwow @mrcisback No it is not.  Which is why the Vanek extension is so important on more than just 1 level.  If he signs, the syndrome of "no one wants to play here" may finally be finished.  Nabby, Vis and Vanek all signed.  Halak or Hiller may give it a good look if the money is right.

since72
since72

@victor pereira @shamwow @mrcisback Look, I don't mean to say that Poulin cannot become a true number 1.  He may.  Then again, he may be a career back up.  It's too soon to tell.  But teams that plan to compete for the cup need to have 2 guys capable of playing in case 1 goes down.  Some teams have 3 and get to trade 1 to improve in other areas.  We need to sign Halak or Hiller if we are serious about winning.

Vicp73
Vicp73

@shamwow @mrcisback What?? Are you telling me we're not getting Miller or Hiller this offseason?? Funny how an ex goalie hasn't figured out what his teams biggest weakness has been for years

since72
since72

@shamwow @mrcisback Shamwow, I was thinking the same thing.  Poulin has been playing pretty well, not great, but pretty well, and I thought "Great!  Snow will go with Poulin / Nilsson next year"  If they are serious about winning, they need to sign an established number 1.

mrcisback
mrcisback

@victor pereira @mrcisback   I was stunned when the Devils stole Cory Schneider away from Vancouver. I really think he is a top 5 goaltendor in this league. I like Johathan Bernier by would have preferred Schneider over him in a minute.

Zee Executioner

I duuno, shlo. I don't get too mawkish, when thinking of the past, either. The main difference between the NHL before 1993 and after it is the advent of unrestricted free agency in the NHL.

Believe me, if you look back at all of the stories, i remember this, all the great ones on the Isles during the Cup run, were considered "free agents" (they were what we now consider RFA's) and, trust me, they wanted their piece of the pie as much as athletes do, now.

And if they could have legitimately have gone to different clubs in order to get the biggest piece, they would have, NO QUESTION. any of them. Potvin, trotts, smitty, all of them.

They didn't have that option. So pride and loyalty and that "stuff" is really a subjective thing.

The difference on the ice can be boiled down to one thing, however.

Roy Boe for as incompetent he was as an owner of two major teams (something he probably shouldn't have been permitted to do in hindsight), did one thing VERY WELL:

BOE HIRED THE BEST OF THE BEST TO RUN AND OVERSEE HOCKEY OPS, MADE SURE QUALIFIED PEOPLE WERE IN ALL AREAS OF HOCKEY OPS, AND GOT THE HELL OUT OF THEIR WAY!!!!!!

Two of the teams i root for have owners who either can't (Dan Snyder) or don't care enough to (Chuckles Chucky) do that.

shlo
shlo

@Zee ExecutionerCan't be that bad since he had a top GM and a great coach,  different times different players, there was team loyalty and pride.

It's all about the money now and plenty of lip service to whoever is willing to listen.

Zee Executioner
Zee Executioner

@shlo ....terrible owner (with 4 cups, albeit) then and terrible owner, now. Maybe even more terrible.

shlo
shlo

@mitchfritzWell, there was a new beginning but it did not last long because you had terrible ownership. Now you have a stud player who is committed to the team, I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel yet, but I think we are IN the tunnel.

@Zee Executioner

And, remarkably, he (yeah, we mean you RM) has at his immediate disposal the CORSI stats, plus-minus ratings, goals scored, points, games played, year drafted, draft rank, salary, cap hit, injury history, etc. for seemingly every player in the League... And if there's a post critical of Snow and Chuck, he responds almost immediately, any time, day or night... So take your pick: he's either a hockey obsessed shut-in with little outside human contact, or a paid shill spreading propaganda for that criminal fraud Wang.

@mitchfritz@dkdk You are right that we are not a player in the FA market, unfortunate  situation to be in, nino was the wrong pick for us. But it is history, archeology- time to move on.Concentrate on what you have and how to go forward.

dkdk

Mitch that is very true too. When hickey is passed by doughty and voynov, etc it is far different than just trading off a kid. And the kings gave hickey a lot more than 2 years before making the final determination too. And back to niño critics can kill him but he is on pace for 45 points as a 20 year old. And many of the people saying that sux are saying just give Bailey more time and he is 4 years older playing a similar role and producing far less. What is that I smell, I believe it is the lovely smell of hypocrisy.

dkdk
dkdk

The kings have a Stanley cup to fall back on so they could write off a 4th overall pick. We are not in a position to wipe away a 5th overall, just a couple of years after taking Bailey 9th overall (when we had another top 5 pick). When snow gets a cup, or for starters wins a playoff round, he can get the benefit of doubt.

shlo
shlo

@mitchfritz@dkdkReminder:  when Nino was picked we were ready to parade him all over the island. I remember the posts. Everybody was elated. Snow was a genius then. It did not work out. If it is a flaw in his character or mishandling ,its over.

Hickey was a 4th overall I believe for LA, is he playing or justifying in any way a 4th overall?  No.

It is time to put it behind us and move on. Happens to everybody.  Let's concentrate on what has to be done to sign Vanek.  Win every game from now on. Vanek staying or not is up to the players not management. (management will give him what he wants).

If they play hard, don't take any shift off like they tend to do, you'll have a winning team and vanek stays.

I hope that every player on the roster understands what's at stake , not just JT.

dkdk
dkdk

And since I mentioned players from the outside, before getting attacked, yes we brought in Vanek. And I still think it is a 1-1000 chance he stays he stays. And it is a 1-900 chance we trade him. We gave up a lot to get him and if he bolts and we don't make the playoffs AND ADVANCE, this alone should be a fire able offense. But the playoffs are still a bit of a stretch and I really, really don't think he will be traded. I really want him to stay, but I am pretty certain he walks.
