Strome named AHL Player of the Week and Rookie of the Month

Ryan Strome has been named the CCM/AHL Player of the Week and Rookie of the Month.

He had five goals and 10 assists for 15 points in 12 games for the Sound Tigers during the month.

Strome had three goals, three assists and a plus-4 rating in three games for the Sound Tigers last week.

He scored twice on Friday night, had two assists in an 8-6 loss on Saturday and tallied his third goal and a game-winning assist on Sunday.

In recognition of his achievement, Strome will be presented with an etched crystal awards prior to an upcoming Sound Tigers home game, the league announced.

Strome has been excelling in the AHL, and is now top-five in that league in scoring as a 20-year old. We discussed earlier in the year that it’s a place where most prospects in his situation don’t end up, but that’s neither here nor there at this point.

He’s playing well and the Islanders need a boost; so why not?

On Sunday, Strome had a goal and an assist in a 3-2 Bridgeport win. After the win, Strome told Mike Ashmore “I feel like I’ve been ready for a while,” in discussing the possibility of playing on Long Island. “I want to go up there and make sure I don’t come back. When that comes, I’ll be ready to go.”

(and before you ask, no, that was not said in a frustrated tone)
