This morning in Sochi, Team Austria kicked off their Olympic play against Finland. The Isles Michael Grabner scored the game’s first goal only :36 into the match to put Austria up 1-0. The lead wouldn’t last long though, as Finland’s Mikael Granlund answered Grabner’s goal five minutes later and the Finns would lead 4-2 at the end of the first period.
In the third, Grabner scored twice more to get the hatter including this, his third goal, with a little more than five minutes to go:
By the way, all three of his goals game against Boston netminder Tukka Rask, who is between the pipes for Finland.
Austria would go on to lose the game 8-4. They have an uphill battle in the Olympics, as Grabner, Thomas Vanek and Philly’s Michael Raffl are the only NHLers on their roster. Their next game is tomorrow at Noon against Canada.
In other action today Team USA blew out Slovakia 7-1, and Russia beat Slovenia 5-2. The final game of the day is Canada against Norway, which starts at noon.
