Retro Video: Mike Bossy’s French Canadian KFC Commercial

Kevin Schultz

I can’t speak a word of French and don’t know anything about this video from 1981. What I do know is that’s a young Mike Bossy enjoying some KFC and that it’s just about the last thing you expected to see this morning.

Kevin, Thanks for posting this video as Mike Bossy has always been my favorite Islander since he joined the team, aka the Boss, La Machine.

The greatest pure goal scorer the NHL has ever seen. During the 4 year cup run he scored 61 playoff goals , that is mind boggling.

The caption at the end means 'that is good chicken". My favorite hockey player of all time! As fans we were robbed by the back injury that cut his career way too short in 87' (I believe, could be wrong). Rightfully, he should have ended his career owning ALL of the Isles forward scoring records. NHL record of 9 straight 50+ goals seasons (could have been 10 for not the injury) will never be broken. Believe he's second all time in GPG and not sure could be wrong 3rd or 5th all time in PPG. Wish we could have seen him play just one more time!

@Derek Scheer

I even heard Gretzky say quote, "I never considered myself a goal scorer like Mike Bossy"

I remember the French sportscasters were calling him Michel Bossy, as if he was French descent, and were surprised when he informed them he is Ukraine, and English descent, but grew up in French speaking Canada, thus his French tongue.

Just looked it up. I was wrong #1 all time in GPG and #3 in PPG.

Thanks. The one time I made it to Long Island from Canada (4 years ago) with my wife had a chance to catch the game at Nassau- lifelong dream. Saw them beat the Leafs whom I hate 4-1. Next night met him and Nystrom at the Social Sports Kitchen for 30 year anniversary of them winning their first Cup. Got him to autograph my jersey and now it sits in my HoF in a shadow box. Only time I ever wore the jersey was at that game. One month earlier I met Billy. A month of nostalgia! When they get to the Cup (and they will-keep the slim amount of faith we have left) with these young forwards, a more solid D and blue chip goalie I'm booking my flight at any cost to be there!
