Sunday is minor league day here at IPB and while the team’s ECHL affiliate is of minimal interest, a slow news day is enough write a quick post on the subject.
The Islanders picked up a new affiliate in the ECHL over the off season, the Stockton Thunder out in California. There are only a handful of Isles prospects on the team; Mike Dalhuisen and Parker Milner both of whom you may remember from training camp, plus a few other players that have ties to the Sound Tigers and, randomly, ex-Islander draft pick Corey Trivino. Also in Stockton is Kirill Kabanov, which seems to be a disciplinary measure and not necessarily a reflection of his skill.
Stockton started off their season strong with a 5-0 win on opening night last night over Colorado. Kabanov had a interesting night, putting together a Gordie Howe hat trick. He scored the second goal of the night off a misplay from the Colorado netminder, got in a fight and later added an assist on a Dalhuisen goal. Dalhuisen also had a Gordie of his own.
